I've had good success with the UltraHub behind another router acting just as an ATA, but I don't think your Asus will be capable enough to do this - you need a device with more advanced LAN configuration options.

You could consider porting your number to a 3rd party VoIP service like 2Talk and just going for a naked connection with Vodafone and a 3rd party ATA...all depends how complex you want to get.

You could also consider changing providers to one that uses the ONT for voice, like Spark.

TBH I believe all managed voice should be provided in this manner, it means the internet connection is router agnostic

We will be sticking with Vodafone for VOIP as they have a good international calling package that we need (still need to phone family landlines overseas).

I remembered yesterday that I had a new in the box Vodafone HG569 in the cupboard. I began to set that up but realised it has the same IP address as the ASUS, so think I need to resolve that before I use it.

Hi not sure what you think is so flash about the Asus, if its wireless then turn its dhcp server off and use the supplied Huawei or ultra hub, and just use the Asus wireless but to be honest it's a pretty cr@p device so why bother.
