Hmm - those jacks are much more cost effective - thanks @sbiddle - $5.29ea.

I was under the impression keystone was more expensive, or are you talking about the labour cost of having to crimp each cable as well?

Just did this and used these keystones on TradeMe for $2.40 each

I use the Commscope Keystone jacks and the Commscope tool, it is a lot quicker than doing a pass-through termination and trying to install an rj45 plug onto a cable.

Fewer points of failure using a proper keystone over rj45s and pass-through connectors.

I think the last time I picked up a panel was 150 ish with all the jacks.

Punchdown panels are the worst after you have had the experience of using a keystone panel, servicing the punch-down, and adding cables is a total PITA, whereas using keystone jack you just use the tool to secure the jack to the cable and clip into the desired port.

Link above was fs.com, https://www.fs.com/products/69180.html

I also used the fs products. They are great quality and good value. Delivered really fast too.

From memory P&P was around $45

Ok - so what do you see as the main benefit in using Keystone? I am no expert but just trying to get my head around the different options.

I can source a 24 port pass-thru panel (thanks to @Benoire and @Spyware) for $66, which I am never going to match with keystone AFAIK.

EDIT: sorry, just re-read your initial post - easy to terminate and more reliable...

The advantage of a keystone jacks is that they're so quick and easy to terminate - but to do so you really need a tool which are unique for most jack brands. Punching down keystone jacks with a punch down tool is tiring, and can be unreliable.

The one disadvantage of RJ45 joiners is that cables can come lose - if I'm ever using a RJ45 joiner as a permanent join anywhere I'll always put a cable tie around it to ensure it can't come out.
