liquidcore: It doesn't have the same processing power as a computer, so don't expect to see the full speed. It was just a quick way of seeing if the upload is faster than what you're seeing with WiFi.

Orbis have poor PPPoE performance, so don't expect to see gigabit speeds even via ethernet. You would have seen better speeds with having the Orbi in AP mode rather than router mode.

But that's the thing... 1 week ago before I went through all of this ISP change, I've been using this same Orbi for the last 2 years in Router Mode except it was behind the last ISP's modem and that was getting me 600/400 which was what I'd expect for a 1gb plan (the Orbi I have tops out at 866Mbps anyway on a 5GHz connection). So why is it though that with it still in Router mode but plugged up directly to the ONT now that the Uploads are suffering drastically?

Whenever I finally get the official Skinny gateway I'll try just that and see what speeds getting so at least get more comparisons of if I need to go back to using an ISP gateway and then having the Orbi behind it.

I believe Trustpower uses DHCP, which the Orbi is able to handle better.

As a side note, if Orbi was in router mode behind the Trustpower router then you would have been in a double NAT situation which isn't ideal.

And there is the difference. Your Orbi is not doing PPPoE in that setup, and now it is. That's a very big increase in load on it's CPU.

That's the physical layer connect rate under ideal conditions. Actual throughput will not approach this under ideal conditions, let alone real world conditions. Apart from anything else, wifi is a half duplex medium.

Ahhh DHCP with old ISP and no PPPoE when behind a modem is interesting in why this might be getting different results. Thank you both for these tips.

And I'm _pretty_ sure somehow when I had the Orbi in Router Mode behind tthe old TrustPower gateway I had turned off all router aspects of the gateway so that it only acted like a modem (like I could plug my TV into it anymore to get internet) ... I just don't remember exactly how I did that and may have to do it again w new Skinny gateway it seems if it'll improve upload speeds w less drain on the Orbi behind it

If you still want to use the Orbis, put them in AP mode behind the Skinny Smart Moden
