nzkc: If DNS is becoming"too hard", how about fixed IP addresses and Hosts file entries (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)

Sure new workstations coming online are abit of a pain...but then you could have PCs copy a central hosts file down periodically too.

Yip that is the fallback plan which I used for one PC last night.

How about SUN xVM running Ubuntu and using bind9 or dnsmasq - all of them are free and you don't need to know how Linux works to configure it, you can even do it via GUI (ispconfig) if you want.
