I am on a tight budget, can someone tell me if this solution falls within legal requirements?

Yes that meets all the requirements for the new legislation. Really cheap too, might even get one for myself - good find.

Actually I read an article yesterday that specifically said that kind of solution is NOT legally compliant (along with tucking it into your hat, cleavage, seat next to you on speakerphone...)

On the original subject has anyone tried the Solar Handsfree Car Kit one on the 2degrees online shop? Seems really cheap...?

Solar appeals to me because charging is a hassle, don't need another device to plug in while I'm in the car (on top of phone and satnav).

Samsung Note20 Ultra, on 2degrees

I purchased a Parrot Mini-Kit from Noel Leeming for $160. Absolutely horrible to talk on. Loudspeaker cuts in and out when there is road noise and doesn't appear to operate any sort of noise cancellation. Took it back and swapped it for a BlueAnt S1 (same price) and it is 110% better. Very clear both ends and listeners notice the mic in the car mutes completely when you are not talking which gets rid of all the road noise etc. Thumbs up on the S1 from me.

I got one of these beyond visor mounted ones from noel leeming.

Not a great experience so far. I use an iphone. I was hoping i would be able to connect my iphone once then not have to worry every time i get in the car. Unfortunately the phone doesn't automatically handshake unlike my old nokia with my pc at work.
It is frustrating to have to waste time hooking up every time i get in the car.
The clip is also tempramental I have had a couple of handsfree projectiles whilst driving (not very safe) as the unit shot off my visor without warning and ended up in a couple of pieces in the footwell.

I would be keen to know what other iphone users use and can i get around the connect process every time i get in the car.

one last thing- I listen to music in the car via the iphone headjack. Can you keep music through the jack but only take calls via bluetooth. Would rather listen through the stereo than the handsfree unit.

I have been using a BlueAnt Supertooth 3 for the past 2 weeks, very, very good and easy to use. Only issue was the initial push of the contacts from my mobile (Nokia 6120c) but apart from that it's all been good. I like that it comes with 2 visor clips so you can move it easily between cars.

I still reckon at the end of the day it is better to switch off your mobile when in the car but it's always good to get a new toy to play with...Laughing

Are you sure the problem is not down to the hands free unit just powering off automatically when not connected? Since a PC is powered on all the time it's not surprising you can connect to it automatically. Most vehicle hands free units turn off once the connection has been broken for 10 minutes or so to preserve the battery life. My Free2Talk unit just requires you to power it back on it then connects automatically to my iPhone.
