bcourtney: Don't set it to use your router for DNS, use your ISP's DNS server settings instead

Nothing wrong with using router to supply your DNS long as its getitng the right DNS itself :)
It probably is just the router not supplying correct DNS.

??

There IS something wrong with the router supplying DNS hence the suggestion to use the ISP settings directly...

I mean in general, not this particular case :)

Should my Dhcp be Enabled. As yesterday im sure this said yes.and why is my local area connection 3 (my wired broadband) saying media disconnected. How do i fix that too?

Also wireless disconnects itself every 10min or so.I click repair and it basically fixes it straight away without giving me an explaination as to y it disconnected! just thought this might help!

It's normal for the lan connection to say media disconnected when it's not plugged in.

On the desktop that's working fine

1: Login to the Thomson admin ui and check DHCP is enabled

On the laptop, get the internet working on lan first

1: Disconnect the wireless connection (for now)
2: Plug your laptop into the Thomson via network cable
3: Change the lan (local area connection) properties to obtain ip address automatically and obtain dns server automatically.
4: Reboot

If it's still not working at this stage try rebuilding the network stack, open a command prompt (dos) and use this command:

netsh winsock reset

Once LAN is working fine on the Laptop

1: Unplug the network cable
2: Change the properties of the wireless connection to obtain ip address and dns automatically
3: Connect the wireless

See how that goes.

Ok so this morning my LAN connection is working fine on my laptop. I can now no longer recieve a signal from my wireless connection when i set it to obtaining IP address and DNS automatically. I try to repair and it says renewing IP address but fails.

However as soon as i go back to giving it a static IP and DNS it gets connection fine!
But i still can't get the internet!!!!!!!

SO.... WHERE TO NOW. ANY MORE IDEAS PEOPLE??? I FEEL WE ARE GETTING VERY CLOSE TO THE PROBLEM!

Check the MAC address filtering but most likely the passphrase/key is simply incorrect.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

OMG thankyou so much. I wnet into thethomson settings and noticed the old man (whom set it up) had placed an MAC code aswell. I managed to change it back to just have a WEP code. Thankyou so much. 2 days and i finally crack it.lol

Obviously getting a static IP is somthing i also needed to get the connection. Thanks to everyone that helped me with the problem. Every little bit of info helped.

Your greatfully, Satasfied wireless user :P

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Few things..

You should not need to use a static ip address if the thomson's DHCP is working normally.  Now that you've removed the MAC address restriction it should work fine.

Definately change wireless mode to WPA2 (or WPA1) with AES encryption and use a sensible password for the pre shared key.

WEP is not secure and can be cracked very easily.  You don't want some random neighbour using your data cap.
