Oh nonono, I was just asking the question. I have only ever installed the faceplates once and that was with the mounting boxes that attach directly to the wall so all kosher there lol.
Rather than building a house, we are moving to a new office and was thinking that we could save money on the fitout if we did it ourselves over a weekend (48 ports planned). The thing is, with the internal walls, I don't even know if they use many studs which could limit the placement options, hence why I was asking about going straight into the GIB. I don't think it would be that hard to run as its a suspended ceiling but don't know about the internal walls.
May end up getting an electrician to do it TBH. I also think we should put our cabinet on a structural wall as we will probably have 50kg of gear in there.
If they put the Gib on before your cabling is ready, you can also get flushboxes that clip onto the gib after the wall is finished. Pvt me if you need some help to run the cables.
I have acquired almost all the parts necessary for my structured cabling install, I will list them all up later on for reference for anyone else wanting to carry out a similar project at home.
OK here is my parts list. Seems fairly expensive (besides the cabinet). Should I be looking elsewhere? Also its all concrete walls but suspended ceiling so will do drops down the wall. Will also leave a few in the roof for TVs, ip cameras, access point etc.
The plan is that on each plate there will be one normal 100mbps port and 1 PoE 100mbps port.
Those wall cabinets are pretty huge and expensive (550mm deep), but really useful if you plan to put rackmount stuff inside. Can find any home wall cabinets on CablesDirect though.
