The hassle and time taken and excess of insurance claims make it a pain in the butt even with it. I expect that free time has all but disappeared as you still have to do stuff to prevent further damage etc even when planning on making a claim.
Sucks to have a flood, and makes me glad that there are plenty of places a lot lower than me, and I am not far from the sea.
cjmack: Our place is on a known flood plain, but it's never come up anywhere near that high before. However, because it is known, insurance companies either won't accept us, or want in excess of $40pwk in premiums, which we cannot afford really. After each pay fortnight we usually have about $10 - $20 spare, and we save that. Also the stuff I was going to sell to pay for my NAS project has been destroyed aswell....
cjmack: Ok, have finally moved to a new place, and also have a new job. I have now replaced all items destroyed by the flood, and now have the spare funds sitting in my account to purchase my project. (Already even bought 2 x 2TB HDD for RAID).
I have decided to go with Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop x64 with MythTV. Anyone able to provide help with setup? At this stage I don't have a DVB card in the plans, that will come later. I just want to setup the NAS and PVR playback sides. I am also debating whether to go with an IR remote or wireless keyboard. I already have a Logitech multifunction remote, so is it possible to program this?
