cyril7: Hi, have had a look at your location and it would seem that you are in the primary coverage of the Birkenhead Exchange so no need for a cabinet, however unless the cable goes by some wild route all over the town I cannot see where 2km of cable would fit.
I am not too sure where Birkenhead exchange is, but based on the VDSL2 coverage I have guessed and cannot see more than 1km of road at max to your address. So that implies that there is 12-15dB more attenuation than expected.
Obviously we have not looked at your house wiring, this could be where this extra loss is, in 70% or more of DSL faults house wiring is the issue, have you tried an isolation test, sorry if this has been covered previously in this or other thread, but if you want to get the most out of you DSL and want to get Chorus (via your ISP) to look into it you first must check you house wiring is up to scratch.
Purhaps you could detail where the exchange is, should you know that info.

cyril7: Hi, that sounds like you did all you can, just check though, in the demarc there is only the one line (going to the filter) coming off the leadin from the street, no other taps off to other sockets.
Yes the scotch locs are fine, so sound like the street wiring is either bad or goes for a merry dance around the block before it gets to you, not uncommon.
Is the leadin from the street overhead or underground. Is it round black poly cable or non twisted older stuff.


Time to find a new industry!
