I personally wouldnt consider TP link to be an business grade solution and would only ever use their products for consumer installations.

Your probably quite right, but to add to that its on a residential grade DSL service, I must agree with the others, the small cost of a hosted website (kiwiwebhost is $1/week and there a numerous other cost effective solutioms ) is probably well worth it.

the Linksys is not to bad. just dont get the ones with VOIP stuff in them.

Do you really want to a host a commercial solution on a consumer grade cheapie router thing?

If you're serious about doing it properly, you want to look at something like a cheap Cisco or a Draytek device. Something you can manage remotely to make configuration changes.

But then if you're hosting it on a DSL line, it can't really be something that _needs_ to be up anyway.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, gonna have a look at a Cisco solution, the remote management sounds cool.

If I had my way, I'd certainly have the site hosted and this wouldn't be a problem, but the client is now adamant he wants it hosted.

There are also many others who are probably better value these days. The very low cost of hosting makes it the sensible solution for hosting a website. I wouldn't ever think of hosting a website anywhere else these days.

IMO, if they are considering hosting on an ADSL connection, the quality of the router is not an issue unless its a known problem one like they clearly have at the moment. They have accepted a degree of downtime by choosing a connection with a "when we get around to it" restoration schedule.
