Change your SSID and pass then make it not visible ... Job done

It's pretty trivial to sniff out non-broadcast SSIDs.

This seems like a pretty crappy thing. Get a Wifi analyser for your phone, go for a walk around the neighborhood with some very well built friends and then ask them "nicely" to stop?

Change your SSID etc... if they copy you, I would probably recommend talking to RSM. I used to deal with a guy there, I will have to try dig up his card; but he was brilliant.

In the mean time, ensure you have a "secure" passcode (nothing is secure, but you can make it harder to get) etc.

Sounds like someones being a bit of a tool.

Hmm, well you could amplify the signal to over power theirs....

Or of more fun, go download (using his connection) some porn, and then let the rights holder know the external IP address of his router....I've heard the porn studios are even more on top of copyright infringement notices than the mainstream studios.

BTW both options are in jest. Sorry to hear you're having problems, and have no idea how you could solve it, baring getting the cops involved if at all possible.

Hopefully the next revision of wifi will put some certification at the SSID discovery phase so you can be certain that when you see telecom internet hotspot it really is telecom, and you can put certs on your APs to prevent this sort of crap happening. Been a problem all along but I havent come across someone doing it intentionally to pe someone off in this manner.

Ok so an update.......
I had changed it to a hidden SSID but they eventually got it, and from what I have read there are very easy tools available to show a "hidden" ssid, and hiding it is just a false sense of security.
The more I read about wireless the more I realise just how vulnerable it is, that includes wpa2.

Anyway the good news is, I decide to go walkabout... following the signal.. Came to a house with a big antenna on the roof! wasnt very far away at all and sure enough the signal was really strong.
Went up and knocked on the door, talked to a lady in her 50's probably, she had no idea at first what I was talking about but then things started to click, her teenage son and bought a big aerial to provide internet to houses around the area as a project to try and make some pocket money. She was very apologetic and said she would have words with him. Anyway by the time I had got home all the copies of the ssid's had gone.. She offered to send him down to apologise when he got home but I sad that wasnt necessary.

Hopefully someone will be grounded for a little bit as a lesson hehe.

Or simply just fire up a old laptop or something and start up a whole bunch of downloads. use their internet to get all you Microsoft Service Packs, Linux ISO's, Open Office.org install files, Game patches.

My guess is they are trying to get you to use your internet banking/email/facebook and have some sort of "Honey Pot" setup to gather this information.

Keep in mind though, once you start fighting back, they may up the game and try something else! If it was me i would give it a go, but your situation may not be the same as mine.

Yeah if he does set up a wifi hotspot I certainly won't be using it hehe.
The problem when teenagers know far more than their parents....
