Hi. I can't get AirPort to connect again! The wireless light is on on the router.

Found a fix that says to delete the preferred network(s) then delete "airport keychain entries" using the "keychain access app" in apps/utilities. Restart then add the preferred network(s) you want. Basically clean it all out then start fresh.

Am hesitating to do this because I have little knowledge of what it is I am actually doing and might stuff it all up somehow.

I have tried to delete obsolete connections in my network preferences before but they come back again as soon as I click out and go back in again.

How can I get the airport to connect easily, by say, clicking the icon in the status bar and not have to set it up all over again everytime I disconnect?

So complicated. I am running OSX 10.6.7 on a MBP which I think differs slightly from previous versions because when I went to follow the instructions, they didn't "fit" the set up I've got.

Can anyone help?

Save yourself some time, and your sanity by taking the Thomson modem/router outside and throwing a brick on it (repeatedly).

Next step, go out and buy yourself a shiny new TP-Link TD-W8960N.

What I'm trying to say is that the wireless on the Thomson TG585v7 is notoriously incompatible with macs for some reason.
Just about everyone that I've come across that has had the Telecom supplied TG585v7, and a mac, all say that they could never get the wireless connected, or that it was flakey at best.

Personally I have not had any problems connecting my Macbook Pro OSX10.7 to a Thomson v8 and my brother hasn't had any connectivity problems with his Macbook OSX10.6 or iPhone to a Thomson v7.

It is possible that there could be wireless interference. Click the Apple and then "About this Mac" and then "More Info". On the left hand side you should see a heading "Network" and beneath that Wifi or Wireless. This will show you what channels neighbouring networks (and your own) are operating on.

Access the wireless configuration page and change channel selection to "Manual" from the default "Automatic" and then select a channel of 1, 6 or 11. Select the channel that none or few of your neighbours are using and then click apply at the bottom of the page.

It's possible the manual channel selection thing might work, but from what I gather, it is something to do with the authentication between the wireless card on the mac, and the Thomson router. They just don't seem to be compatible, and authentication fails.

I hope the manual channel selection thing does work for you though, as it will save you from having to buy another modem/router. :)

The wireless config page that is being referred to is the config page on the modem/router itself.

This can be accessed by typing in http://192.168.1.254 into your web browser (or clicking on that link).
This will give you access to change the settings for the Thomson router/modem.
Remember, if you still haven't been successful in connecting via wireless, you will have to make sure you are connected to the router via Ethernet cable to access this router config page.

I can't remember exactly where the wireless config settings page is, so just have a search around and follow your nose. You should stumble across the right page. If you get asked for a password anywhere along the way, if you haven't changed it, it should be 'admin'.

:)

Hi, ok have changed the channel. Do I have to disconnect the ethernet cable to be able to connect wirelessly or can I stay on the net while I'm trying to fix it? I have no other devices I can use in the meantime.

Also I have a side issue too. I ran disk utility and my MacIntosh HD volume is corrupt and I don't have the OSX installation disk. I ran Onyx and it froze during deletion of the trash files. Can't remember what it said in the pop-up window when it happened. Is this serious? What can I do without the installation disk?

Yes, disconnect the ethernet cable and try and connect via wireless only.

I'm not sure to be honest. Macs are not really my territory.
From what I've heard OS X Lion comes with a USB boot/install creation utility.
Maybe if you download and upgrade to OS X Lion (NZ$38.99) you will be able to do a fresh install after you create a bootable OS X Lion USB install/recovery stick?

Ok thanks. Have been backing up using Time Machine so there may be a solution there.

isosmama: Did you have any further luck with the Thomson router and Mac, or did you end up buying a new one?
