No, unfortunately I have not been successful. D-Link support is clueless regarding BT or this adapter. Since not critical for me to move to 2.10, I'll just continue with prior version. I see that you DO need the latest version for Windows 2003.
From what I can tell the problem hits users with the B3 revision and 3.10 original CD?? D-Link seemed to very inquisitive when I noted this observation and very dodgy in confirming. I have requested a warranty exchange with the latest hardware revision and driver CD. They are saying it's not hardware related, but my OS config/registry. I've proven this to be wrong by unsuccessful installs on pc's that have never had BT.
Since minimum process time for warranty request is 6 to 8 weeks and doubtful may be successful. I'd recommend going with vendor (e.g. TDK, Belkin) that has a better record of support for this type of device. The time you'll spend working with D-Link will far outweigh the $40 to $60 dollars for new adapter.
If I hear of anything I will post. Keep a watch on this site for updates.
Just noticed that you have the B2 not the B3 revision. I think these were the only two revisions that shipped with 3.10 CD drivers. Are you presently using the 1.4.1.6a drivers? If so, the sequence of installation is to install the 1.4.2.10a without deleting the prior version. This will create an "upgrade type" of installation where the license.dat from the prior version is retained (or should i say SUPPOSED TO WORK). When done this way, the Widcomm Key screen does appear before asking to insert the adapter, but you receive the error earlier in thread.
D-Link said sometmes you had to run the BTFaeSec.exe several times before recognized by software and adapter??? I lost confidence immediately when they directed me to \bluetooth software\bin directory to locate the program. As explained, at least for me, the install doesn't copy from unzipped drivers to local drive.
Try the steps as I explained and see if maybe you get lucky. Let me know.
Yep, stated that first in my message then obviously forgot you were on 2003 by end. Short term memory probs. that day, I guess!!
Good luck with Widcomm, but don't think you'll get any assistance. The drivers are licensed to the vendor and the vendor modifies as necessary for its hardware and assumes all support responsibility. I've seen many posts with the same hope, but all have been referred back to who sold the hardware to you.
Hi. I just did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro. (I reformatted my hard drive twice before installing windows). I then installed the 1.42 Build 10a drivers and then plugged my DBT-120 in. The bluetooth icon in the taskbar stayed red, and when I right clicked on it, it said something like "Start Bluetooth Service" or something like that. I clicked on it and then it said, "Your Bluetooth Software License does not include use with this Bluetooth device. [6]". I talked to D-Link's tech support and they were useless.
I have a B3 rev. with the 3.10 disk. Anyone find a fix yet? Thanks.
Hello, Dlink are aware of the issue, they have even said that they are going to look at it in their labs. I would suggest you recontact them and mention that there are other people with the issue, more wood for the fire!
I have emailed D-Link's tech support regarding the,
"Your Bluetooth Software License does not include use with this Bluetooth device. [6]"
error. This is what I told them:
""
Hi. I am having a problem with my DBT-120 USB bluetooth adapter rev. B3 (came with the 3.10 CD). When I installed the software (1.42 Build 10a), then plugged the DBT-120 in, I could not get it to work. I right clicked on the bluetooth icon on the taskbar, then clicked on the menu that popped up. It said something like, "Start bluetooth services". When I clicked on that, I got an error that said,
"Your Bluetooth Software License does not include use with this Bluetooth device. [6]"
I have called your tech support, but they did not know how to help me / fix the problem. There are numerous number of people experiencing the same problem:
Hey - have just downloaded the latest 14210a drivers from the d-link site to go with my B3. Installed (and de-installed and installed again) and was getting the same "not licensed" messages as the rest of you and the blue/red icon.
Then I unplugged the device and stuck it into a USB port it had never been in before (actually via a cheap 4-port hub that's in my laptop's only USB port)...
The hardware wizard did its stuff and I now have the blue/white icon! I'm allowed to configure!
Hope that helps!?
Mike.
PS. If that still doesn't help anyone, www.d-link.co.uk looks all French to me - but they seem to have a couple of different sets of drivers (for B3) and a link to something about obtaining a security code.
I've also re-initiated the driver install process by changing USB port, but didn't work for me. This was one of the first attempts to solve the problem when I was working directly with the D-Link Development Staff.
US support site has been reconfigured somewhat in past couple of weeks in order to ease confusion on which drivers go with which hardware revision, but 1.4.2.10a drivers have not changed.
D-Link stopped responding to my emails about 2 weeks ago. Glad to see others joining in on reporting via email. First level support never would confirm there were other users with similiar problems and nothing has been posted in FAQ section on web site.
If I remember correctly, Belkin was slow to publish drivers for their products until many users blasted support with emails and phone queries. It will be interesting to see if D-Link addresses issue.
Had some spare time this weekend and made another attempt to install D-Link's 1.4.2.10a drivers since recent re-config of support site for DBT-120 and was successful.
Here's what I did:
First Try:
1. Followed link specifically for DBT-120 & B3 revision starting from here.
2. Downloaded 1.4.2.10a drivers and 1.4.1.6a drivers.
3. Uninstalled current Widcomm software (1.4.1.6) from control panel and re-boot.
4. Cleaned registry with Tune-Up Utilities, DISABLED Norton AV, NIS Firewall, TrojanHunter and re-boot.
5. Installed 1.4.2.10a and usual red BT tray icon. Tried to switch USB ports which initiated an install of adapter hardware. Still red BT icon and usual error messages. :(
Second Try:
1. Restored XP back to point prior to above attempt with GoBack and uninstalled/installed 1.4.1.6a using solution for problems with "Windows configuration" found in this thread.
2. Ran setup.exe from 1.4.2.10a drivers without uninstalling 1.4.1.6a. This created an upgrade installation. Got message that re-boot of PC required.
3. After re-boot, got the usual red icon :(
4. Then initiated add hardware process by switching USB ports and this time icon was white and could continue to configure :)
After BTW upgrade, re-installed PC Suite and configured Serial, DUN and FAX. All successful.
Paired HBH-35 headset with PC and prior audio problems with 1.4.1.6 and XP are fixed.
Follow the steps under my Second Try. Should work for those having problems with B3 and 3.10 install CD.
Wish I had been a little more methodic in keeping track of my steps but didn't expect any of this to work, so above is broad outline.
Try emailing/speeking to dlink. If you read the rest of this thread, you will find it's a known problem, well we know it is, however it seems dlink need some more convincing, so please rattle their cages.
