deano71: Thanks for that, I was running unblockus without the vpn running. I was only on a trial version of unblockus, would the payed version be different? Find it a bit strange that vudu was working great but not netflix. Sometimes on netflix the video would not load at all or very slow to load. Not sure why, ahve gone back to strong vpn working fine again.

Weird. Since I have been using unblock-us on my PS3 I can only say great things about it. I have experienced just the opposite.

But that said. I seem to have noticed the odd bug with unblock-us which I had never experienced before with my VPN. Tried playing a game last night and for some reason it could not connect to the PlayStation network.

I have 2 separate Ps3 network accounts. A US one which I switch two for Netflix/Vudu and Hulu+, and an NZ one for Ps3 Games and NZ only services. This seems to work fine most of the time. I have sometimes received errors and timeouts etc when trying to run Netflix while logged into the wong PS3 network account, ie NZ.

Also, I know this may be a dumb question, mut did you let Netflix run for at least a few minutes on unblock-us before coming to the conclusion that the quality is worse (Sometimes it takes a long time after video startup).

Hi, thanks for the advice everyone, still having the same problem with netflix. vudu works great on unblockus, don't understand why netflix is playing up. It does work but not as stable as my VPN. Could it be because I'm with telecom, should I change to a static IP address with them? Would really like for this to work, as the speeds are heaps better for streaming hd.

Telecom should be fine.

I was trialling this for the past week. I have to agree with you that the speeds are better via unblock-us.

However I have come to the concution that I will be sticking with my Astrill VPN.

Streaming HD over a VPN should be fine anyway. The only difference I have seen is that I can achieve HDX 1080p via unblock-us, but only standard 720p HD via VPN. I cant help but wonder what this difference between HDx and 720p will do to my cap. I am quiet happy watching at 720p for now.

I think I have come to the same conclusion as well, I will stay with strong VPN for now. More stable. I did e-mail unblockus and they said sometimes some ISP's use hijacking methods on some sites. Maybe the case with me, but I have read on these forums about other people using unblockus, with telecom with no problems. So who knows. what speeds are you getting with astril vpn, I can get high hd with netflix but with vudu i can get hd but only one bar on the three bar scale they have. still looks good though. cheers for that.

My speeds normally range between 2500 kbps and 4000 kbps.

What are you using to do your speedtest? I have found that speedtest.vudu.com in a webrowser differs quiet conciderably to the speedtest built into vudu on the PS3.

I have also found that I get faster speeds when I bypass my DD-WRT router. The PC with the Astrill software is much faster at encoding/decoding the encrypted stream. I have a Linksys WRT310N running DD-WRT v24-sp2, its only got a 300 MHz processor so thats probably the reason for its slower performance. Maybe its time to upgrade.

I have a simple question (I think) - how do you get the Netflix and Hulu apps to show up on the PS3? I have access to both a US proxy and VPN both of which work well, but I just can't get the Netflix and/or Hulu apps to show up on the PS3 interface.

You have to have US PS3 Network account. And you also (obviously) have to have your PS3 connected through your US based VPN/proxy. If you have both of those things set up correctly, you should see the apps pop up after a while of leaving the PS3 on if they haven't already. Possibly also restart the PS3 a few times.

First create valid Netflix and Hulu+ accounts on your computer, via the VPN pof course.

On you PS3:
1) If you signed in, logout of the Playstation Network.
2) Signup and create a new PS3 Network account on the PS3 (Make sure you PS3 is connected via th VPN to the US). Just enter any US mailing address.
3) Once you logged into the PS3 Network on a US PS3 Account, the icons should appear under TV Services/ Select them to install.

The apps will not appear if you are logged in under a NZ PS3 Account, even if its over the VPN.

You can also follow the above procedure to install the BBC iplayer app. Just create a UK PS3 account first.

Thanks for the help - with the proxy set, and the US PSN account, I can get access to Hulu+ and Netflix apps. But I can't sign in to Netflix via the proxy - it says I can't watch netflix from this location. So the Netflix app must be doing some other location checks as it works fine from my laptop. Any ideas?

try rebooting ps3. Then check via ps3 browser if it has a us ip. showmyip.com

It appears my proxy issues are not confined to the PS3. Seems I can't play movies through the proxy - signing in and browsing Netflix is okay, but as soon as I try to play a movie it throws an error. Need to troubleshoot that further...

Hi there just a quick question about using unblock-us. I am keen to try the NetFelix/Hulu business either on apple tv or import a roku.

Roku doesn't seem to be supported by unblock,unless I am happy to change my router DNS settings, which I would rather not. Which then leaves me with Apple tv (unless someone could recommend an alternative for about the same price).

I read on the unblock website that in addition to changing the DNS settings on the device, you also need to change the settings on the computer ( not the router, just something in the computer settings).

My question is, what effect does changing these settings on my PC have while I'm surfing the web etc?

Also has anyone tried jailbreak in the apple tv to gain access to Hulu? And if I create a us account, can I access my photos and music from my iTunes account/PC without changing my logged in account?

I appreciate your responses.

I run a VPN for my jailbroken Apple TV and that works really well for Hulu+ and Netflix. Before I had a Hulu+ account the Apple TV was a bit crap for Hulu but now it's reasonably solid and there are no ads. The Hulu+ plugin is from the Bluecop Repo and is pretty good but you do get the odd crash. The freecable plugin is pretty good too.

I still get access to iTunes home sharing (i.e. photos/music) with the VPN. I think it's the same for unblock-us.
