lyonrouge: it's great to hear those old mainframes have some life left!
just curious :-) how is your failover setup? (OSPF? BGP?)
and is that "Seawolf" redhat on the alpha? what AIX version on the AS/400?

The piss I take not, although my power bill was quite bad, hopeing with the christmas consolidation effort I can cut it down. With all the PC purchases I can not affort LCD screens, so the CRT are probably using more power than the machines.

Fail over is WRS (Walk Round and Sit). DEC ALpha is runnig RedHat Seawolf 7.1 (however, it Ubunto on the rack that I use the most). The rack is curious I got a 4 port Belkin KVM and some no name from Taiwan (which is actually better with the molder cables being tidier), anyhow they use different kwy command so I can chain the Taiwan one off the Belkin, giving 7 machines on one terminal, sweet.

The AS/400's are native OS/400 (V4R5 and V5R1), I got them cheap as they are decommissioned equipment form an incumbent new zealand telco. They do not have VPAR capability, mind you , I'm not sure AIX can be run even on VPAR AS/400, I think they only run on RS6000 (now known as X-Series I think). HP-UX is enough command line UNIX for my liking.

Upstairs. It actually looks worse in real life, the 400's and HP are in the gaurage while the others (except wireless) as in the "rumpus room" (yip, 70's house).

my wife calls it "nerd wars", but I have to correct her that it is "Geek Battle", anyhow, the 9 PCs are used for gaming once a week (8 are used and one is spare when one of them dies). SBS is for ActiveSync and the domain controller for us (raoming profiles make a great backup technique). The rest is stuff I have collected (from items in the collection you may have guessed that I used to work for a three letter US company) and used for research and the like.

I only have one mac (a real one, not a pretty unix box), so I think that reduces my dodgyness ;-)

Hmmm, you made me update mine, but what I can't decide on is the question mark box, I'm thinking a PII dual (rack mount) but can't find one, what else would make a good addition to my museum?
