I've sent the recommendation to my friend. Thanks guys, I may hit you up later for more info, and if anyone wants to give me a quick guide how to set it up (set a static IP and any firewall required) I'm all ears (or eyes).

Thanks Michael, much appreciated. My friend is planning on buying it at some stage, that may be weeks or months depending on his finances. I've loaned him a WRT54GL as a WAP in the mean time.

I'm looking to replace our Linksys router as its on the way out, reading this thread it looks like this one is the go? http://www.gowifi.co.nz/coming-soon-new-products/mikrotik-rb951g-2hnd-high-power-802.11n-gigabit-wireless-router.html

I
plan on pairing it with a Draytek Vigor 130 for VDSL

Is it worth going for one of these over an AC router like the Asus RT-AC52U? http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?r=p&partid=21462

Really it is up to you, the Mikrotik is a learning curve however it is a very capable router especially for its price, the Asus is a more costly router but still really capable.
