It depends on where you buy it. PB Tech list it at some stupidly expensive price and they can't obtain it anyway (just like the enterprise Cisco and Aerohive access points they list).

Fully agree. Also have a look at the Xclaim models such as the Xi3. Xclaim are made by Ruckus. I have 2 of them and my coverage is insane. In reality, 1 would have been fine. But since I had already bought 2, Why not setup both of them.

With both APs inside my house, I have been able to walk down my driveway and across the road. And to the end of my street. At both points I have still been able to connect to my Wifi, and do web browsing and some speed tests. 65M and 80M distances respectively. Line of sight to the outside of my house, but 1 external wall to the AP. Speedtests were only around 2meg at that distance, web browsing worked normally.

The Ruckus access points have dynamic beam forming (I am not aware of any other vendor available in NZ that does) and Ruckus has used that advantage to built a niche around large area deployments. This, along with their ISP grade management system (not available to the general public), is the reason you see them on the top of phone boxes around the country.

The Xclaim access points, even though they are made by Ruckus, do not have dynamic beam forming so you will not get the same signal propagation.

My Xclaim's still give me massive coverage. The coverage I get is even more impressive assuming you are right that the Xclaim's don't support beamforming.

I looked and found references to static and transmit beamforming but not dynamic. Do you have a link to the dynamic beamforming specs?

I see Go WiFi has the E600 at $535+GST, which is very cheap for a 4x4 access point.

The Xclaims have transmit beamforming (as all 802.11ac access points do) but not dynamic.

Another thing to remember is that beamforming increases the rate over range rather than the coverage area. For small residential deployments this isn't an issue but for high density deployments it is a significant consideration.
