Appreciate the replies. I will stick to the FW i'm on.
Part of me wishes I had gone down the Ubiquiti route now... the grandstream stuff is OK, nothing amazing.
The little things make the biggest difference.
I've raised the issues (especially with Speed) with Go Wireless and they are working with Grandstream to get it resolved. They've also passed on feedback to them regarding support. They're currently bench testing the router on their Gigabit connection to attempt to work out the issue as this router was great on Gigabit when I reviewed it.
Despite this, I still have no issues at all recommending it to others as it is a good piece of kit.
@Shindig If you're on anything below Gigabit UFB then upgrade your router for security reasons. Remember also, the cost of the Grandstream vs the Ubiquiti kit is a huge difference :)

any news direct from Grandstream?

I can't see any news or updates on their website or forum. I've had no other problems except for the messy update and the halving of the speed. The wifi APs seem really solid. Be nice to get a fix soon.

I pushed for an update on the update in that same thread, but only got crickets so far. They don't seem to be in a hurry, that is for sure.
@michaelmurfy I don't suppose you have heard anything further from Go Wireless?
I was in touch with Go Wireless the last few days, and they reached out to Grandstream, and this was Grandstream's response.
So basically not much use, other than providing Grandstream testing details via a support ticket.
Thank you for contacting Grandstream Networks Support.
Does the issue happened when he is using PPPoE?
Could you please get the customer to factory reset the unit, re-config from scratch and test again?
Ensure that QoS and DPI are disabled as well.
If the issue still happen, please provide the following -
1. Speed test screenshot
2. Syslog from Web UI > System Settings > Maintenance > Syslog (DEBUG level)
3. Configuration file from Web UI > System Settings > Maintenance > Upgrade > Download Configuration
Thank you.

Has anyone successfully downgraded their GWN7000 firmware back to 1.0.4.23?
What was the process? Could you use the web GUI and point at the previous firmware on GS site, or did you have to host your own tftp server?

Best to download the 1.0.4 firmware file, then in the web GUI just point to the downloaded file and it will work just like a regular update. Be aware however that it will also do a factory reset so you'll need to re-enter any customised settings.

Please don't downgrade your router. There are several security holes patched in later versions so you may be opening yourself up. Try the factory reset option first.

So you can have a secure router that slows your gigabit connection down to sub 200 megs or an insecure router that runs at full speed.
Which is why I ditched mine and replaced it with an EdgeRouter Lite.

Same, my GWN7000 now lives in a spare parts box and a nice Fortigate 30E does the job. I must say the Fortigate is a significant step up in quality (and price, but you get what you pay for).

There's a new firmware out - beta, so maybe not for the faint-hearted.
The release notes don't seem to mention anything about fixing the speed issue though.
Details at http://www.grandstream.com/support/firmware/gwn7000-beta-test-firmware.

I did see this line in the Enhancements/changes section - Improved PPPoE WAN speed upon 1.0.6.28 but then i saw this exchange in the forum:

Hi,
Before I test this, just wondering a couple of things which are not mentioned in the release notes.
Does this version fix the issue with gigabit PPPoE connections being capped to 300mbits?
Unfortunately, it does not.
So who knows. Really disappointing they haven't resolved this issue, it's my only real complaint I have currently with the gear, it's been good otherwise except for the messy update last time. And the fact I can't figure out how to get PLEX or ipv6 working properly but that's probably more my lack of skill more than anything.
Firmware 1.0.9.4 for GWN7000 released. Will try upgrading tonight once the wife is off the internet.
