You won't need the PPPoE client on the Mikrotik.

Some additional detail is here: https://www.draytek.com/support/knowledge-base/5367

Thanks for that link.

Put another way, can I choose to keep how I currently have it, running PPPoE on the Mikrotik and just use the Draytek DV130 as a pure bridge?

Shouldn't be a problem. The Draytek 120 and 130 we're popular cuz they can do pppoa bridging too, which is unique, but vdsl is pppoe and pppoe bridge is a common config for them.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Done. Ordered a DV130. I will give it a try when I receive it and post up the result.

Can someone tell me the footprint size of the DV130 so I can check if the RM shelf I want to buy is suitable for a couple of them?

So did you try the VLAN translation example as given in the manual using ACL rule.

  • Create a new bridge and add ports to it with hardware offloading:

/interface bridge

add name=bridge1 vlan-filtering=no

/interface bridge port

add interface=ether1 bridge=bridge1 hw=yes

add interface=ether2 bridge=bridge1 hw=yes

  • Add ACL rules to translate a VLAN ID in each direction:

/interface ethernet switch rule

add new-vlan-id=20 ports=ether1 switch=switch1 vlan-id=10

add new-vlan-id=10 ports=ether2 switch=switch1 vlan-id=20

  • Add both VLAN IDs to the bridge VLAN table:

/interface bridge vlan

add bridge=bridge1 tagged=ether1 vlan-ids=10

add bridge=bridge1 tagged=ether2 vlan-ids=20

  • Enable bridge VLAN filtering:

/interface bridge set bridge1 vlan-filtering=yes

I spent a lot of time on the Mikrotik manual and was not able to get my Q-in-Q setup functioning in the way I had intended. My philosophy is if something is not technically clean to deploy it may not be a good idea. So I will try a DV130 and see how it stacks up.

Assuming it works how I expect and acts as nothing more than a dumb bridge it may fit the job nicely.

ok, i finally pulled out the screenshots of my setup at it's basic (in production it's alot more complex with rules for load balancing, transparent shaping upstream etc.

Hopefully this helps you @michaelNZ

It's doable, It's just a bit!ch to get right.

As i said earlier, the docs on doing QinQ is a nightmare. it took me many attempts to get this going Including rocking SwitchOS to do the ALC's (dont do that, it's ugly, no winbox/terminal... just ew.)

Personally i'd only do this sort of setup if you wanted to load balance or do something away from the dsl circuits.

Transparent load balancing works great upstream to the load balancing particularly when there are asymmetrical lines.
