Right now about 10 counting a managed switch and wireless access point. But easily more than 20 if I pull my work laptop(s) out of the bag, switch on a couple of old devices that still work and start all the VMware Fusion and KVM VMs on a couple of machine.

So I'm already seeing that these devices that only support 16 or 32 devices, especially ones with small NAT tables, aren't really suitable for modern households.

timmmay:

6: two Broadlink Pro, two phones, Roku, laptop. Sometimes a tablet or work laptop. Everything else is on Ethernet.

isn't the 32-device limit of the hg659 for both wired and wireless combined?

not sure how many devices i have, but i'd probably run into that limit.

Hm,

2 x iPad

2 x iPhone

1 x SurfacePro

1 x PC (W)

1 x AppleTV (W)

1 x TV (W)

1 x STB

1 x PVR (W)

1 x Echo Plus

1 x Sensibo

1 x Harmony Hub

1 x Wemo

a couple of broadlink power switches/powerboards. I'm not actually sure those are connected to the router. I don't use the RM Mini anymore, and Alexa controls them OK through the Echo Plus.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

16 devices certainly isn’t suitable anymore but for 80% of households 32 devices would be plenty. Most families would have 2-4 PCs, a couple of smart TVs and 4-10 mobile devices. 32 devices gives plenty of headroom.

This group isn’t a ”normal” group of users.

Thanks for the heads up about the limitations of these routers as many of my friends have them. The Huawei my ISP insisted that I use is still in its box, I use an ERL3.

My partner & I no longer have flatmates, so we're down to 6 VLANs with 22 wired devices, 10 wireless & 13 VMs among them.
