I have been dealing with these ONTz and the UFB for over 6yrz now, never had to reboot any of the dozens of customers systems, not saying it will not happen just saying your over thinking stuff to the detriment of the fi Al outcome.

The overlap of you having all 4 of:

  1. ONT/Router needing a reboot
  2. Guests staying
  3. It being late enough they are in bed asleep
  4. It being early enough that you're not asleep yourself (if you were asleep you wouldn't care the internet was out)

Seems pretty slim.

OK, thanks for the inputs.
Will probably end up putting it in the rumpus room as you’ve recommended.

As others have said I am 99.999% sure you will never need to reboot the ONT.

Far more likely is the router will require a reboot.

Missed the last few posts on this thread. But to me the only place to put it is either in the comms cabinet if there is room or next to it. As long as there is power and ideally close to the comms cabinet.

As per the photo when the gib was off, there isn't a duct pre-installed to the cabinet in the garage / rumpus room so Chorus would typically just tack the fibre to the ceiling.

Another option is if there is a network outlet somewhere else, put the ONT there, then use the internal structured wiring to run the WAN link into the comms cupboard.

New builds like this always make me cry since there was the opportunity to do it right the first time during the build, but the architects / builders / sparkies just haven't got their head around doing UFB properly yet... So this sort of situation will persist for many years to come.

Hi Peter, if I am not wrong the middle wires going to the top od the cabinet has a white OptiCat5 cable, so contains the fibre back to the etp.

My house is of a similar size to yours but 2/3 of it's mass is on the ground floor. I mounted my single AP (GWN7610) on the downstairs ceiling beside where the ceiling intersects with the stairs. I only have the one AP and have perfect coverage throughout the house - and well beyond. Your AP has very similar specs to mine.

Thanks, I’m hoping to get away with one AP as well. Cabling is there though, if I need a 2nd AP.
Have you got mid floor insulation?
