From memory, the overall lesson there was, don't bother, just buy pre-made ones.

As above, buy pre-made cables - you won't save much unless it's for a whole house work.

 

I know it's solved (marked solution in previous page) but in the future, people should also check for router and switch port settings - some have the option to use "Green" which limit the port to 100 Mbps for energy saving. Some people set this and forget about it. Just one more thing to think about when testing your environment.

Good to know something I said sunk in. I'm pretty sure I also said something like "if you get a job as an IT guy and need a temporary 30m patch cable, you will look pretty stupid if you can't make one yourself"

 

Actually knowing me I would have been far more blunt than that...
