Anyone here used B&H in the US? They're offering the DS220+ for US$339 delivered to NZ, so around the NZ$500 mark.

I have an order inbound from them. They seem very efficient so far, about 25% cheaper than the best nz price I could find on the camera I ordered. Reasonably priced delivery, no GST

Sadly I have come home to my 213j packing a sad, it is using 100% cpu and I cant find out why, it has stopped distributing files but it says that both drives are OK. I would like to upgrade the NAS from 2bay to 4bay, that way it is easy to increase storage and have a high uptime.

For the guys importing from the US, please let me know what delivery s like, it is attractive but I still think I will have trouble getting that one past the boss.

What does the warranty give you? My NAS boxes are critical pieces of hardware. If one fails, I'd be buying a new one unless the warranty provided me with an immediate replacement. There is no option to send it off for repairs. Just like with failed drives, I'd consider any repaired hardware (or reconditioned replacements) to be suspect and not use them for critical purposes.

With that in mind, the only reason not to import if the costs are significantly lower is the risk of shipping damage.

Or, buy last years model if you can find it... that's what I did with my 4-bay unit. Cheap and still does everything the next model does.

In NZ, there's only $50 difference between the outgoing DS218+ the new DS220+, so not much of a price difference to opt for the newer faster chip and memory.

I'm assuming I can swap over the NZ plug on the power supply from my DS214j without issue?

Other than plug swap, is there any other difference between a Synology sourced from the US versus local models?

Similarly, my DS220+ and two 8TB drives from Amazon US arrived this week, 10 days after ordering. Packaging was poor as there was no packing inside the box with the hard drives free to slide around. Hard drive boxes had been opened and taped closed, so I suspect this was Customs, so unsure if they removed packing and did not replace or whether Amazon shipped it like this. Poor form somewhere along the way. Thankfully, DS220+ and drives none the worse for poor packaging and are up and running ok.

Also just following up on my earlier post, camera from BH photo arrived safely about a week after ordering, well packaged and GST free. Very good service from this store

Instead of upgrading the NAS I ended up getting a refurbished Shuttle NC01U i3-5005U from Aaron at oncall.co.nz for $150.

Put Ubuntu with Plex on it, mounted Synology SMB (a bit of struggle, but worked out fine). Works like a charm, with the only caveat that the fan noise can get a bit too noticeable especially at night, so I put the unit in another room.
