magu: Bear in mind that rack-mount servers usually are LOUD.

Its going in the garage - where the rest of my computers are (note to self - get a house with another bedroom for a study next time!)

magu: The problem is not RDP'ing into it. The OP said he wants to run stuff like imaging software (as in, cloning computers, etc). That's more of a job for a workstation, not a server.

I was assuming given the WHS discussion, that he would just be using the inbuilt WHS backup function to "image" his PC's. Certainly saved my bacon a few times by being able to restore a complete PC image.

I didnt know about it not having used WHS before, but it sounds like the ideal thing to use!

Saves me mucking around with true image

I was on the other side, thinking he wanted to image third-party PCs he brought into his network ad-hoc. Not backing up regularly (Time Machine-style).

This is what i was going to do as well so I guess I would need the PXE software as well?

MooPoo: I realise it is rack mounted, but there are no fans etc underneath it so does it really have to be mounted in a rack and not on a shelf?

yep, maybe have a listen to it running before you commit to buying it!
Even located in a garage you still may be able to hear it from the other end of the house!
