These things can be intensely frustrating sometimes.

I sense you are 'close' - but then that doesnt help does it?

What sort of video files are they by the way? mp4, mkv, avi?

I seem to recall there was a way you could go to the PC that isnt running serviio and open a web browser. - You could type a special web address and should be able to stream to the second PC. Effectively the second PC would be a DLNA client - would be good for testing. See if you can still do that - maybe in the help pages.

The video files are a selection of all: mkv, avi and mp4. None will play.

I'll look up how to stream from the Serviio laptop (server) to client laptop.

I so much appreciate all your time in helping me with this.

Actually - I think as you have just installed serviio they let you havethe 'pro' edition for a couple of weeks - after that it cuts back to basic and a few features get turned off - unless you buy a licence.

So it looks like at the moment this page should give you instructions of how to access the media library from another PC (mediabrowser):

http://serviio.org/mediabrowser

So you need to open a browser on the 'client' PC and type http://<serviio_pc_ip_address>:23424/mediabrowser (obviously with the IP address), so for example http://192.168.1.22:23424/mediabrowser

They are talking about some ofthat stuff covering access from outside of your network - so read carefully. I have run out of steam on serviio - you might find it useful to create a new thread on GZ that says something like - "Need some help with serviio".

If it is ports and that are causing issues that could be why you couldnt get this all working in the first place (prior to trying serviio).

I found the web address to stream from one PC to the other. So I was able to type in this address on my husband's laptop (client), and from there access Serviio and play my movie files. :-)

I've just about run out of steam too! :-D It seems I may never get this streaming sorted so will probably just have to make do with an HDMI cable between the bluray and my laptop.

All your help has been much appreciated.

WOO HOOOOOO!!

Thanks so much for all your help Rob, Jase and Spyware for all your help throughout both my recent posts, and Spyware thanks - you held the final key by suggesting I should use VLC instead of WMP.

I did as you said Jase by changing the different categories (video/music/etc) to use VLC (rather than the original WMP I had been using) on the PC to view the video/music files.

Now it works!!

Well, that was a challenge! I could not have come anywhere near getting this going without you guys :-)

I'm posting this message both here and on my more recent post because I'd like to be sure everyone who helped out, knows it's all sorted.

Yes :-) It works on the Bluray. Still can't see my Serviio files on my husband's computer but I'm working on that at the moment. Main thing is, it runs beautifully on the bluray.

Guys, what is the best way on Geekzone to recognise the answer which resolved an issue - if there is really a combination of 2 or 3 answers that helped? Is it polite to 'Vote' (I see that icon on the posts)

on the website (not the mobile one) there is a bar along the top of each post where your name is, it has +1 which you give to people whos posts you find helpful and at the right side there is a set answer button with a green tick, you can use that for the actual posts you found were the answers. thats so people can just go straight to the answer instead of reading the whole thread.

I forgot to say that I also changed the profile for my bluray player in Serviio from 'Generic DLNA Profile' to 'Panasonic BD Player' so this may also have contributed to the resolution. :-)

Yes, I certainly learnt a lot. My latest lesson is once it's all going good, don't stuff with it! :-(

Buoyed by our collective Geekzone achievement, I figured I should whack Serviio onto my husband's laptop as well so he could stream his files directly from his own laptop. I shouldn't have - the Serviio wouldn't download properly onto his laptap so the whole exercise was pointless anyway, and now the Bluray cannot see any devices at all.

Hopefully I can figure this out, even if I have to start from scratch, now that I've managed it once.

Ha! Back in business :-) All I had to do was to reconnect the Bluray to the Wireless system, and it's all good again :-)
