Can someone plese confirm an Edgerouter-X will work well on a Gigabit 2Degrees Fibre connection? (Plugged in straight into the ONT, obviously)
Would it achieve 9xx Mbps (with offloading on) as the Fritzbox does?
low 800s on an er-x even with all the offloading features on (pppoe, vland and hwnat) and all dpi/qos off. If you want to get 900 flash it with openwrt (I see 900-910 tops on an er-x running 18.06.4) - you'll also get a much easier web interface than edgeOS

USG is same hardware as er-lite - so proven capable of gigabit routing - but you get a more friendly management interface on the USG than with edgeOS though
you'd probably want a cloudkey to manage it and the unif AP though - so starts to get expensive
Hey guys, I have an USG on the way and while I am waiting for it to turn up, I have been wondering about how I would adopt it into my network.
Note: It will replace a Fritzbox, on 2Degrees Gigabit Fibre.
My current Fritzbox is setup to create a network on 10.1.1.1 (all DHCP IPs are 10.1.1.X)
I don't mind moving over to 192.168.1.X which is what seems to be the default for USG.
I have found this link which sounded promising but I am getting confused about the steps I need to take. More specifically, if I need to update the firmware on the USG prior to adopting it, would I need to hook it up to the fritzxbox and let it get an ip (on 10.1.1.X)?
At what point (and how) do I switch over to the USG. I am using a Cloud based controller, so will need the USG to be connected to the internet in order to adopt it... Or am I missing something?

I realise you've already gone down the path... but the fritz's can run in mesh with ethernet backhaul (cable between the 2). Works rather nicely.
For the USG I highly recommend manually doing an offline update via SCP before doing anything else. Download the files to your PC via the Fritz then plug into the USG and follow the guide.
Once thats done, disconnect the Fritz from the ONT, plug the USG into the ONT and a PC to LAN1 of the USG and login via the web on 192.168.1.1 with ubnt/ubnt and get the internet going (set VLAN / PPoE details). Afterwards, you can SSH into it and use the set inform commands and point it to your cloud based controller.
In the cloud based controller, you can set up your lans to be the same as what they are currently. Once the USG is adopted to the controller, it will provision the settings and wha la, your LAN is back to 10.1.1.x. After that, plug the rest of your network in to the USG. The UAP will sort itself out (assuming it's currently already adopted to your cloud controller).
There's a few steps to get things going, particularly when you have a cloud based controller.

Upto you! Depends how serious you want to get with networks. Both the 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x are fine to use.

I would download the files to my PC and then upload it to the USG via SCP. But you could also plug the USG into the LAN of the fritz and set the USG to recieve a DHCP WAN IP and do it via the internet upgrade method.
Are you saying connecting my PC straight to it on the USG LAN port and using what I know is the default (192.168.0.1)?
YEP
PC connected to Fritz (via LAN of Wifi) - download firmware. (USG is not connected to fritz)
- then -
PC connected to USG via it's LAN port (turn wifi off otherwise the connction to the Fritz/UAP will continue) - it will (should) get a DHCP IP in the 192.168.1.x range. USG is not connected to the ONT or the Fritz at this stage, just powered up and has an ethernet cable plugged into LAN1 and the other end to your PC.
