This would be better in the LAN forum.

That’s a great one!

Just be aware that if you’re sharing your “unique” SSID you’re sharing your physical address.

Edit - found this has already been posted :)

Might be a technology forum, but it doesn't mean everyone here has a sense of security! 😆

when i was young we lived in an apartment block and neighbour didn't know how to put security on their wifi (or so we are made to believe) and everyone would leech on their wifi.

they changed it to Go_Away

we still leeched

till this day i'm confused as to how they know how to change their SSID but didn't know how to put a password ...

maybe they were nice

KiwiSurfer:

While I've set custom SSIDs in the past, I stopped because most visitors to houses are cunning/smart enough to find the SSID/Password off the stickers on the APs. This has cut down dramtically on the 'whats the wifi network/password' sort of queries I used to get a lot of previously. Very especially helpful at relatives houses where I can pretty much set and forget their APs--people visiting them can always find their SSID/PSK on their sticker. A bit boring yes, but if it saves my time... :)

That is great for time saving. But I always make my SSID unrelated to the brand/model and the home address i.e nothing like “D-LinkX95” or “SmithFamily”.

My favourite names are nonsense words from the Jabberwocky poem:

Jabberwock

Brillig

Borogove

Vorpal

Snickersnack

We have variously had Zebulon, Monotreme, Kakapo Central and Dad Express. Turns out I had a distant relation called Zebulon in the early twentieth century, which was a surprise as there's no obvious Hebrew connection to mid-Dorset in the UK.

My wifi is named after my favourite Korean actor, Wang Ji Won. Making Wan Ji Won the obvious choice 😃

I can't take credit for it but one that amused me was "Pretty fly for a wifi"

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup.

My SSIDs are as inconspicuous as possible (hence nothing to share in public) and only show as much radio presence as necessary.
