Does anyone else have a APC Back-UPS HS 500? I can not use the default user ID and password (apc/apc) that is in the documentation and I have not heard back from APC what the resolution to this issue is. I want to experiement with the outlet control, but need to logon to use it.

entered into the Media Center arena with a second hand box, and shuffled others around to fit. I now have 3 different TV tuners (1 x USB and 2 x PCI) and none of them have brought me a lot a pleasure. The USB is particularly temperamental.

Now that I finally have a dedicated Virtual Server box, I've started the migration process (which will decommission the current SBS box), here's the current state.

The Home lan...

My lot...

pfsense firewall, and two physical servers, the one on the left is my storage box, and the VMWare host.

The VMware server houses all the virtual stuff on 3 virtual networks I  use a single 1Gb/s crossover between the vmware and the storage box which gives me good performance for what I need.  The teriary NIC on the firewall gives me a DMZ which is not routable to the rest of the lan for a shell box I host for some friends & customers.

This is a wee bit out of date, as I've extended the LAN into the garage for a PLC test setup, and changed my WiFi to a dlink unit, but you get the idea.

The firewall and two servers are all plugged into one 1kva APC UPS, and my main PC is on a 350VA one.  I've started re-wiring the house with Cat6 for a single central switch, and I'm planning to shift the servers out of my workshop, as it's awfully cluttered in there, thinking about building a 'rack' in the garage, which might just look like a lot of 4x2, but I'll call it a rack for the sake of ego...

Diagram done in dia.

Cheers, Chris H.
