Hi Guys,

My Dad needs a website for his work. It'll be very simple, an opening page with a photo or two and some contact details. Then links to 5 pages for each of the 5 staff, so they can have staff profiles.

The last website I made was using Frontpage Express probably in 1998. Before that, I made an Angelfire website for my granny with links to all her favorite websites on it.

Just wondering what you recommend is the best / easiest way to try doing it myself. I don't code, but I'm good with computers. Wanted to give it a go and see if I can save a few hundred bucks.

They have a domain registered.

First up, avoid the MS Windows forum :)

Check out Wordpress or Concrete5 - templates ready to go and plenty of tutorial on how to get them up and running is available online.

+1 for Wordpress - been using it for a few years now for my own site, love it :)

If it's that basic, you could probably get away with using Webs or Wix to create them..

Wordpress is free, hugely popular (means lots of good free plugins, templates, and people who can help you), easy to setup, (usually) easy to update, somewhat secure and stable, works on cheap linux/php hosts. Have used it pretty extensively myself and found it overall very good (after some terrible experiences with Joomla and Drupal)

Another option is, if you really just want a couple static pages, just code 'em in HTML and CSS. Performance will be great, and the up-front effort isn't that much either -- however maintenance and extensibility will be a pain if you go down this route.

HTML is a good option if they don't plan to update it regually. Wordpress is good, but you have to keep it all up to date to keep it secure, including all plugins, otherwise it will likely get hacked.

Well, for a fairly basic site you can use WordPress.com which is a hosted solution from Automattic (the people behind WordPress).

Check out http://wordpress.com/ - Its easy to use, and no software to keep updated. Free for a subdomain on wordpress.com and not that expensive to use your own domain. With both free and to-buy themes.

And the added bonus is that if you want something more advanced than WordPress.com can give you, you can always move to a WordPress installed on a webhotel somewhere.
