Hi guys,

REcently my Dad brought an ipod shuffle 1gb. He has put his music on itunes and loaded it onto ipod no problems.

But given our computer which is low on memory i need to delete all the songs off itunes. But if i do this, that means the next time i sync the ipod the songs will be gone on the ipod too. Surely there is a way round this if you could please tell me how to this?

have your ipod plugged in
go to devices (within itunes)
uncheck sync box
restart and see if the box remains unchecked
if it does not work you need to disable the ipod process on task manager first and then uncheck the box

Storage of music on your PC's hard drive has no effect on memory usage. Deleting the songs will not free up any memory.

If you require more memory, a memory upgrade from DSE will be quite low cost.

If you in fact are low on hard drive space, then a hard drive upgrade (or addition) is also pretty cheap ($70 odd dollars for a 40GB drive or $130 odd dollars for a 250GB drive).

If you are unsure of what you are doing in regards to deviating away from Apples way of doing things, then it only takes 1 tickbox to be wrong, and bam... no music.

All gone.
Empty iPod.
Disappeared.
The sound of silence.

erm ... please listen to the mod! (thanks t.h., should've picked up cues from the question regarding memory!)

if you're not sure what you're doing (please note what i've written is entirely legal by my books and most) - dont! as you risk losing all your music.

You should use 'manually manage....' which is an option when you plug in your iPod. This was you choose which songs you want and nothing happens automatically.

tonyhughes forgot to mention the Microsoft way of doing things...its the same as apples way, only you don't have control.
