Any one remember these things:

They were designed to work off the old 3-wire phone system with a separate ringer wire (I think).

Does anyone know of a way to make it work on a modern 2-wire ADSL phone line?

Its a LRB or Loud Ringing Bell

To make it work in a two wire world you would will need to install a Capacitor in series with it to isolate it from the DC phone circuit but so that it reacts to AC ringing. Normaly when converting from 3 to 2 wire jackpoint working, service techs would clip the capacitor out of a master jack and two port it into the circuit. (Fault techs still save the capacitors from master jacks for that purpose - as the capacitors can get damaged by lightening strikes, stoping the bells from working and shorting out the line) This capacitor is either fitted inside the pastic base of the bell near the strip connector (prefered for fault finding) or in the back of a jackpoint that the bell is wired off (can be a bit messy)

If I remember correctly the RIL of these things is 2

On the old plan arrangements all the bells were in series and got cut off when any of the phones went off hook. When old bells are used in parallel they remain in circuit during speech. If the bell still has the original motor coil the low ac impedance of the bell can degrade speech quality. You may or may not notice.

You will regret wiring this in lol.... It is funny at first and then just gets annoying.

But yea as InstallerUFB said, put a capacitor in series on either of the legs. A good place to get a capacitor is off the back of an old phone jack. Just snip it off the PCB and solder some fly leads on to it.

Someone who lives near me has an incredibly loud phone ringer on their phone. Not that type but the electronic one.

They also have no voicemail, and people who call them like hanging on for 20-30 rings before giving up and calling straight back.

And noise control will do nothing about it.;
