For those the next hour I'm going to setup guest access to my HA system for those that want to have a look. It'll be reasonably locked down but enough for you to have a look around.

should be better now.

View -> Device Status -> Ground Floor should work for those who can't resist the urge to turn stuff on/off

Im clicking thins and I cant seem to actually change anything at all? What is open to change?

view -> device status -> ground floor Ive left open so you should be able to click on the light bulb icons to turn stuff on/off

Ben I will IM you a separate login with some more access to have a look around

Have to admit I was one of those people

have never seen a live setup before so was great to have a play around
Was really surprised to see the huge list of devices/things you can monitor and control from one place
Would hate to think how long it would of taken to get everything set up

Its taking 2-3 seconds to respond to most things, and the page took so long to load I didnt even know that anything was happening. Is that just because of high load with everyone hitting it?

To be honest other than setting up stuff I don't generally use the Web interface but it's the only thing I can really show (and I know its fun to be able to turn something on/off in another part of the country). The web interface isn't a primary control, it's more your admin interface where it doesn't need to look pretty. The bulk of everything is event driven, a small amount using voice recognition and then finally for a UI it's controlled via custom touchscreen design that will run on Windows/Android/iPad&iPhone

The devices set themselves up when you pair them to your network, so that parts not so hard. It's the designing the events that trigger them (which unfortunately I couldn't expose access to for you without opening up too much) and then understanding your familys patterns/routines to match. When it works you don't even notice it stuff just happens. Getting there can involve evil glares when the lights go off at the wrong time, or the tv goes off. Voice Recognition is even worse until you can tune it to a point where false positives are the exception. Then when you've spent your time doing that your focus moves to how do you integrate different technologies that weren't necessarily designed to be integrated.

Damn, missed it!

EDIT: Just watched your video; awesome! I see you are using HomeSeer. It looks much, much nicer than OpenHab and most of the open source ones. I prefer systems that look like a dashboard as opposed to a simple lists like OpenHab does.

Very, very cool and quite inspiring.
