Hi all

Looking at getting a dashcam...lots of idiots on the road.
What features should I be looking for?

Is there any brand I should be looking at staying away from?

Looking at getting one myself.  I'm thinking that a rear facing camera input is a must as there's been a couple of times times an idiots behaviour has started behind me

billgates: TheWireCutter - Best Dash Cam

To be honest, I wouldn't consider that a very good unbiased source. They claim that you are pretty much guaranteed to get a fake unless you buy from one of their "reputable trusted vendors", all of which (surprise, surprise!) have an affiliate program. Amazingly convenient!

Checkout techmoan website or you tube channel if you are interested in the less expensive end of market.

I would have thought one in the grill would be better than on dash. Then with wireless to smart phone or something.

I still want one that will hook onto the wifi when I get home and offload everything from it ready for the next outing. Youtube would be an ideal place to dump it all, as private videos since I can always get it back from there again.

I got a DVR-207 based on reviews of its predecessor the DVR-027

Turned out to be not as good. Now have a G1-CW - black G1 with capacitor powering as the batteries in the others cook and expand like no tomorrow.

dashcamtalk.com is another reviewing type site, with multiple seller links on ebay etc.

Estore009 has been a good source for me, no spam or affiliate emails afterward etc.

Some of the better out there at present are the small round ones - Mini0805. The B40 are rated better, but butt ugly and silly fitting to the window.

Can almost guarantee the ones from 1-day which look identical for less than $40 nz are fakes, and dashcamtalk will tell you how to spot them (usually the file format and encoding). What may look fine in 1 persons eyes, may not be as suitable in anothers.
For instance the file-lock function I have on my current one is not present on the copies, and on-screen tattoo differs.

Gave up with my search on dash cams...

They are either way over priced ($400+) or just cheap fakes out there.
Disappointing ...

Get out of my radio playlist!

But yes, there is a mic. I just muted that one to not torture anyone with my self-conversations, humming along and abuse to other drivers that pull out on stop signs lol

I've got the card out on my desk at home at present to get footage off. Shall look for a night one for you, lot better than my previous. Loves street lighting.
Certainly chinese, the english translations on the box and manual are a laugh. Think its an original (a lot come from the same factory but bulk purchased and resold branded slightly differently), just went by the 3 suggested sources online that others had experiences with. The copy one has a very similar orange box (even though the original is meant to be a "black-box" brand), but different functions and OSD look/video.

Even the examples there appear to have timestamp on right when the newer/later like I have is on the left (you can also add your Reg plate number for added source proof)

Picked up a Tomtom one for the father in law over the weekend for fathers day. Records in 4k, super insanely sharp video. Great set up, no wires, streams to your mobile phone.

Are you able to post a link to information on this model? Ta.
