Yes it runs on rain water from the roof, and also collected washing machine water.

I've found that white 200l barrels don't last that well exposed to UV. If the 1000l tanks are similar plastic you should cover or paint them.

Trademe has heaps, search IBC on there.

Depends what was in them, food stuff ones will sell for more than cleaning product ones. I wouldn't be drinking water from the roof regardless so immaterial.

I have been slowly digging under the shed to fit a few in the space there. While lowering the clay by 200-300mm seems easy in theory, it is a crapload of digging and moving the waste.

Yes that would be good. My system waters automatically every two days if there is water.

Only use the washing machine water on the trees and ferns. Keeps the bugs away

My ponga's are getting rather large now, so they don't seem to mind. They are about 6 or 7 years old now.

Tanks are around the back of the house so they don't see much sun. Plants are growing over them as well.

Most of them cost me about $100 each. The last two I brought only cost $20 each.
Got most of my from an orchard.
