Im on the hunt for a NVR that has mobile support for notifications of movement etc. I have looked at alot of crapware already and nothing seems to work like it says it does. ispy is a classic example of over-hyped crap. I do not mind paying a reasonable fee to use a cloud service but it must just work. I have a good internet connection(vodafone cable 100/10 - DD-WRT router) that i have full control over and have stable server already running so this is not an issue. What are you guys using?

Have you looked at Blueiris? Pretty good product for little outlay, give their 15 day trial ago, you won't be disappointed.

Blue Iris is great, and not very expensive if you want more channels. Also has a proper android app to go with it.

Edit: Will just add. I tired Zone Minder first (as my servers are Linux it seemed to be the go to). But just found it a bit weird the way it went about things. It was all about 'events' and 'zones'. Rather than what I'm used to with normal NVRs. I can see how you could do clever stuff with it but at the end of the day, for my home situation, I just want basic motion recording and few of the other 'normal' nvr features.

Sorry, another edit. I personally run a standalone Hikvision nvr for my cameras- purely because it was free. And also has plenty of features for what I want.

Without know anything about your actual requirements, whether you're wanting a hardware or software NVR. whether you have decent cameras it's pretty hard to offer advice but if you are looking for a software based NVR Milestone X-Protect is arguably the best software based NVR solution there is.

Milestone is the same as DigiFort you need to find an overpriced re seller. Its just 2 IP cameras and the server is a c2q q9400 4gb ram and a amd 4650. Also have a surveillance HDD so should be plenty enough. So yea software based.

I have used Blue Iris, milestone and Ispy when looking for one.

In the end settles with Blue Iris. Purchased a multi Cam version. It almost never false alarms with movement (unlike Ispy).

Also doesn't use much disk space. Had mine running for over a month, windows at the start reported 800gb free and still reporting 800gb free.

I'm running 6 Cams on a 6 year old ex games PC (x64). I have all sorts of unnamed brands of Cams and all are working fine.

Must of what you want to do still comes back to the type of camera you're using and whether they're any good or not.

Motion detection is done in one of two ways - hardware or software. If you've got good quality cameras then hardware based detection can be a far better approach (and is the only real approach when you start dealing with say a 30+ camera system) due to the CPU requirements of motion detection.

Blue iris looks to be a winner i have the Demo running good and the detection just works. Can anyone please confirm that the Mobile alerts work?

I can confirm that my push notifications to my mobile work all the time every time, as long As I am in mobile or have networked connected.

Also new camera arrived today and its mint Dahua 4MP IPC-HDBW4421R the night vision is so much better than the Edimax one that costs twice the price.
