My aim is to get Kodi on my Notebook to cast to the TV. My Google Cast works fine from Android but the Notebook Chrome Cast extension only casts the video, no audio. Videostream works but I wanted the Kodi interface.

So, has anyone got both video and audio casting from Kodi on a PC?

Currently my google cast is attached to my AV unit. I get no audio from the TV speakers or the AV unit speakers.

Like I said, all works fine from Android.

migrate to plex,

it supports google cast natively.

Voice gives context

Casting the screen looks like crap in all cases I have tried. Plex mostly works, some content freaks it out but you can just find an alternate version of it if that is a problem.

Just a suggestion....

EASY WAY:

Make sure you have the latest google chrome browser installed on your laptop.

Open chrome and type c:\media\movies (or whatever your windows path would be to the folders that contain the content you want to play)

Find the media file you want and click on it - it should play in chrome.

The latest version of chrome is meant to have built in google cast ability

If not there are plugins/extensions for chrome that enable it.

You could buy a raspberry pi and install OSMC on that (OSMC is a very nice kodi package).

Add a wifi dongle to the raspberry pi and connect to your home wifi.

Hook the raspberry pi up to HDMI on your TV and make sure you have HDMI-CEC turned on - the TV remote should work the Pi/OSMC interface.

Just set up a share on the folders on your laptop that you want share.

Add a link to the PC folders into KODI on the Pi and voila!

Got stumped at first Plex hurdle. Looked for server D/L for my WDMYCLOUD single drive and didn't find a D/L that matched.

Second problem, I don't know how to install progs on the NAS.

Perhaps that is why I like Kodi!

How to map a My Cloud or NAS device on a Windows PC

Open chrome on your laptop.

Type "X:\" (or whatever the drive letter you assigned from above) into the address bar and press enter.

Should show you a file explorer in the chrome tab - browse to your media file and double click - it should play in chrome.

If you have the chrome cast extension installed there should be a cast icon in the chrome browser.

Thanks for the input. guys, but going back to my first post, I want a Kodi or Kodi-like interface to my NAS based media files for playing in my lounge. And, like I said, I have got Chrome to cast the video but I get no audio.

The Rasp Pi sounds interesting but just another layer to keep going.

Just really was hoping for a decent PC casting equivalent to what Android does really well.

Maybe some day it will be possible to easily cast both video and audio from the notebook.

Back to using the notebook tethered via HDMI or using the mobile via chromecast.
