Just wondering if anyone in the Kapiti Coast, Horowhenua, or  Wellington region has a DAT player that we could either borrow, of use to transfer some DAT tapes to another medium.

We are an Access Radio station and have some archive material on DAT, but our player has expired, and has now gone to that place where all defunct tech goes to rest.

Hahaa, DAT. Haven't used one or seen one at a client for almost 10 years.

I can check with work and see if we have one? We're in Auckland but I could courier it down if we do.

I'll take a look tomorrow...

Thanks very much for looking. Hope you can find one. The boss showed me the number of boxes full of DAT tapes - a big job ahead for someone.

Your best bet (if all else fails) might be to source one via ebay.com. They werent too common here.

There are a few listed. If you went 'portable' then the frieght shouldnt be bad.

Obviously you might end up with a 110volt unit if you get one through ebay - I am sure you can source a 230>110 transformer locally though.

The old man used to have one, I have enquired in his direction... but it was a very long time ago and it may be long gone or no longer working.

Edit: no dice, sorry :( Good luck with your hunt.  Maybe you are better trying to fix your player for one last hurrah?

Hi James,
I have a DAT player/ recorder at home if you still want the tapes copied.  I also sent a fb message to you at Coast Access Radio.  I live near Motueka- so we would have to do this by mail (although I will be in Welly for CubaDupa).  Im after used DAT tapes- hard to find any in NZ.  I could copy the tapes to flac files on DVDR or USB drive & send back to you in exchange for the tapes themselves.  At present I can only do this via analog into my sound card, but I have a digital toslink converter on order from America arriving shortly (would make perfect digital clone).
Cheers, Tom

Wow Tom! 😵

I had forgotten all about this. I am not sure if this is still required. I will check with the boss and get back to you.

Tom

Got in contact with Coast Access people. I presume, if they are interested, they will contact you.

Thanks for the offer.

James
