I have a old PC that failed during an electrical storm. Surge. The SATA HDD spins up but can't be detected by several devices.
Purchased a replacement second hand controller board from Ali Express and understand that I have to swap the original ROM chip onto the replacement board. ROM is specific to the drive characteristics.
Now I don't know if this will work. The head circuitry may also be fried etc but it is worth a try.
Looking for a reliable service person to do the swap for me. My hands are not that steady these days and I always sucked at soldering. You can make of that what you will.
Don't want to spend a fortune as the owner has limited funds.
I am in Auckland.
Thanks,
