Looking at buying a tower fan for the bedroom. Can anyone recommend a particular fan? I like the look of the dyson fans but not sure they justify their $700 price tag. Do the evantair/goldair ones from the warehouse work ok?

Be ready if your in Auckland..
Just get a cheapie, Its not worth the few hundred dollars to blow room temperature air around :).
I had a dyson blade thingi and it was feeble.
The cheapies are fine, I have a few which were dirt cheap and given years of service. In short though, the bigger the better (quieter per volume of air moved)
Normal ain't coming back, the crazy stays.

The tower fans are okay but they're noisy if you're expecting to use them at night. IMHO the best option for cooling a room while sleeping is a ceiling fan. Really good value for money ($100 - $200 from Bunnings plus install) and are quiet enough to leave on all night.
I got one of these in the crazy heat at the beginning of the year: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/omega-altise-120cm-tower-fan.html
From Appliance Shed from memory. Cant remember the price but I do know there was literally nothing else left anywhere. It does a pretty good job, isnt noisy unless you turn it up on full. Only issue I have is the remotes battery dont last a hugely long time - mines flat and I cant be bothered getting another right now :p
