Based on various positive reviews of the CleverLoop system a while back, I went and got one to replace the dodgy Chinese Linux-based cameras I was using until then. However the performance I've had from it has been pretty unsatisfactory and I'm wondering if it's just me or if others have experienced similar issues.

Some background, because of the very wide angle of the lens it's capturing the branches of a tree to the right of the image, I've set the detection hotspots to the path leading to the house but it occasionally gets branches/leaves blown across it when there's a bit of wind.

The problems:

- Sometimes it just stops detecting anything, there's no movements or alerts for days at a time. On New Year's day I had half the family trooping up and down the front path and got no indication that anything had happened.

- Detection at night-time seems to be nonexistent. I get lots of movement alerts due to the tree branches, but nothing if there's a person on the path. I could have a whole army of burglars coming down to the house and unless a tree branch moves wouldn't get anything recorded.

- When I'm training it ("this should be a movement/action"), about once every four or five clicks it drops into the set-hotspot screen, which I then have to back out of to get back to the training-mode screen. This is really annoying, it happens at random every couple of clicks, throwing a hurdle into the training process.

I've already tried the obvious things, e.g. telling it to forget its training and start again, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Is anyone else running into issues like these?

I have experienced your 3rd issue when it drops out to the hotspot screen. It's annoying but not a biggie in the scheme of things. I do however, find it very annoying that when you get an alert and tap 'Remove', it does nothing and you have to go back to the main screen and re-open it before you can remove it. But the worst thing for me is that geo-arming is very unreliable and half the time it doesn't disarm until after I've triggered alerts myself and have to spend time removing the alerts. According to Jason (Founder & CEO) on Android (not on iOS) it is supposed to disarm when it detects the home WiFi but it has never worked properly for me.

The outdoor camera seems to be good quality although it's a shame it doesn't have 2-way audio as it would be very useful to be able to talk to people at the door. However the indoor cameras are, IMHO, cheap and nasty and half of the infrared lights have never worked.

I gave up on geo-arming, initially for the same reason you did (there's too much latency, so it doesn't disarm quickly enough when you first get back home to avoid getting an alert each time), and then because I wanted to see how often it would actually alert. So I've got it set to always armed in order to see how many times it fails to alert.

Another thing that I've just remembered, I never get notifications (Android 6.x) despite having every setting I can think of enabled for this. The only time I can see what's happened recently is if I manually open the app, at which point it tells me I have xxx alerts/movements waiting for me. Or possibly zero, depending on how it's feeling.

Try the following for your notification issue...

Android Marshmallow, like Lollipop before it, also lets you choose to block apps from sending notifications entirely, or to mark notifications from certain apps as priority notifications.

First, head back to Settings > Sound & notification. Next, scroll to the bottom and tap App notifications, then tap on the app for which you want to adjust notification settings. Toggle the Block all slider to the “on” position to stop receiving notifications from that app. Toggle the Treat as Priority slider to “on” if you want notifications from that app to be considered Priority notifications.

Unfortunately my phone has a vendor-provided UI that doesn't follow that pattern, the way of setting notifications is completely different, it's accessed via Settings > Notifications, enabled for CleverLoop, and then in the config for that enabled for "Notification tags" and something in the launcher identified as "@2131427821". Something from the by-geeks-for-geeks school of UI design.

I have 3 outdoor cameras, one is not yet mounted anywhere so I just have it running indoors.

All cameras are POE powered and thus hooked up to a gigabit switch as the Wi Fi setup ruined wifi for my other wifi devices (tablet etc).

I had one camera worked perfectly from day one until about two weeks ago, now I can often (but not all the time) get all the way up my stairs in view of the camera, unlock my door and enter without it recording an event.

One along the side looking down upon my van has always been a bit hit and miss seeing people but always noticed the van drive away again until recently when it missed a couple of trips.

Third is out front and had issues with a tree shadow late evening.  The tree is gone now, always hated that tree.  It had been fairly reliable again until recently, now misses me half the time.

I've unplugged the base station a couple of times to reboot but that has not helped.

I now have a desktop PC independently recording to Hard Drive as a bit of a back up plan and am on the verge of submitting a support ticket.  I'm starting to wonder if it is issues with the cleverloop servers maybe being too busy.

Following with interest.

I'm struggling to make any sense of its performance in an outdoor setting.  I'm a week in, and seriously considering returning it.  Not overly impressed at all.

In one example, I can drive out in a car, unnoticed, however when returning in the car the car is detected.

People at night, is basically pointless - but a cat manages to set it off.

20m range at night is a joke...  more like 5m, maybe 7!

I should say I still like the product, it was quite good to start with for me, I was able to tune out most unwanted things, and it did ok.

If I can get it back to that I'll be happy.  Support Ticket submitted, if you don't tell them your issues they can't suggest a solution, and they are happy to help.

I had that as well, initially it was fine. Well, with lots of false positives, but at least it recorded every person that came to the house. Now I get endless movement alerts at night due to branches/leaves moving, and nothing at all during the day. I could have an army of burglars carrying stuff out the door and it'd record nothing happening.

They have been looking and did find a glitch with the server, things at my place do seem better now.

Need a normal week to be sure.
