Hi all,

I'm after an Amtel ATSAM4S-XPRO evaluation board (not the entire kit). I can find it reasonably easy enough in the USA, through Digikeys or Mouser, but I rather not deal with the hassle of international shipping. So I much rather buy local, but I seem to be unable to find any NZ reseller for Amtel microcontrollers, let alone that SAM4S-XPro?

Is anyone on Geekzone actually using that particular controller? Or could someone point me in the right direction? Googling specifically for NZ always seems to point me to the usual large USA-based sites.

Always got my stuff like that thru element14 who ship it from overseas.

If you did find it in NZ it would have been thru the great NZ markup machine and cost more than fedex from a US supplier.

Thanks Rich, I saw it on Element14.com - but I'm not familiar with them. How have your experiences been with them? Some of the customer feedback wasn't very positive at all.

DigiKey and Mouser are actually pretty good in terms of shipping, once it gets past the startup delay while they sort out the paperwork or whatever they have to do it gets here pretty damn quick. I'll buy locally as well if I can, but when you can't find it locally then somewhere like that is the way to go, it's surprisingly quick and hassle-free.

Another thing to watch out for is shipping price breaks if you can bundle enough items together to go over a certain amount, orders over USD50 from DigiKey are free ship, for example.

If in stock they have always hit their estimate on the page just fine.

If its not in stock then very hit and miss about it tho.

I have done 3 orders with Element14 and they have all been a problem.

NOT with Element14, they had the items and did ship promptly, the issue I have is with Toll the courier they use.

Toll have totally screwed the delivery every time, so much so that I am back to using RadioSpares as my preferred supplier.

I use RS at work and sometimes E14 if RS can't supply.

Prefer RS as freight is free for online orders, and have never had an issue with their products or delivery. Delivery is usually overnight if in stock in NZ or Aust.

E14 p*ed me off about four years ago with a personal tools order that I placed with them. Pricing was wrong on some items, some others were on the packing slip but not supplied. I was charged again for the missing items when they were finally supplied. Trying to get it sorted was a major hassle that was not resolved to my satisfaction. The total order was only about $100. In the end I just paid up and now only use them if I have no other choice. It has probably lost them about $10k in lost sales since then.

No idea what just happened - my post just vanished. Anyway Element 14 delivered, my SAM4S-XPRO board was delivered through Toll.  Packaging could have been a bit better, it was just a bubble envelope with a cardboard box inside but it all seems to be in good order.
