Hi guys,

Our Wyze smart door lock is in need of some new AA batteries and I was wondering apart from rechargeable batteries - what are your battery of choice here?

Given it's going to be on a smart lock, so always on and it would provide entry to our doors, ideally I would like something that's of high quality and last the longest.

For economy sakes we tend to get a big pack of AA/AAA Endeavor Batteries from Noel Leeming, they are okay.

I get varta packs from bunnings. My sureflap eats them like crazy and does no better off the normal energizers and im not spending on the lithium ones for it.

Eneloop NiMH recharables with a Maha charger. Slow ish chargers tend to be better for batteries than 15 minute chargers - 2 hours is about the right charge speed.

Missed that thanks. I tend to use the cheap ones Carbon Zinc from the hardware store for most things like kids toys, Carbon Zinc are lower capacity but higher voltage which suits some things better. If I had something important running off them I'd do Energiser lithium / alkaline.

Got a 50-pack from the Warehouse a few years back and been slowly working my way through them. Works just fine (despite their age) although I do try and use rechargeable batteries--usually Eneloop.

Even though our door lock had a big warning "Alkaline batteries only", and following the instructions for a while, I has subsequently given up on that and put Enaloop pro's in. Very satisfied. Am trying to go all rechargeable with my AA battery stuff.

You guys got me thinking that Eneloop batteries might be a better solution - would this mean that I can have 4x batteries always charging and then use the other four rechargeable batteries in the lock?

Would they last just as long as a typical AA battery?

Eneloop are very high capacity, but like Alkaline are around 1.2v. You don't need spares charging all the time, with a decent charger they charge in 1-2 hours and they stay charged on the shelf for months or years - I forget but a long time. Avoid the super fast chargers.
