Hi All,

I'm having real troubles listening to Magic Talk radio on my Google Home devices. The station is available on TuneIn (https://tunein.com/radio/Magic-Talk-956-s87130/), but any combination of voice command I use only ever gets the Google Home to play Magic Music (https://tunein.com/radio/Magic-Music-702-s246103/).

Does anyone have experience using listening to Magic talk via voice request on their Google Home devices and care to share the voice prompts that the use to get it working? I feel like I've asked the unit a million different ways but it just doesn't seem to get it quite right! I'm in the Hawkes Bay if that makes any difference (I'm guessing not though as I think it would just be the country regional settings that matter).

Appreciate any help!

“Play magic talk on tunein” Does that work?

I’ve been playing zm via google assistant, via “play zm”. Which comes from iHeart radio.  But in the last 72 hours has stopped working.

would be keen if others can try it.

i suspect that's exactly what they are trying and they are getting the other station.

"ok google play on magic talk on tune in" gives the response, "playing magic music on tunein"

what google assistant does and what google home do are 2 different things.

Yeah, that’s one of the ones I’ve tried and it just plays magic music as you’ve said!

That command just leads to Magic Music on Tunein

I’ve just given “Hey Google, Play ZM” a go on my home mini and it works well for me playing ZM from iHeartRadio. Not the first time I’ve come across Google Homes behaviors changing randomly (and not all for the worse I’ve found!)

Are they media works like the breeze?  We’ve found them harder to get right.  And there’s a us breeze as well.  I think we can get it via “breeze wellington”.  So maybe magic talk is similar?

Yes, they are mediaworks! Just had a try with ‘Magic Talk New Zealand’, ‘Magic Talk Auckland’, and ‘Magic Talk Wellington’ and they either don’t work (the Wellington one) or just give me Magic music again.

Maybe the easiest solution will be a petition to mediaworks to change the name to something that’s not so similar! 😂

Oh wow, it looks like that’s done it! Thank you very much for the solution - hopefully this keeps on working for the foreseeable future!

I guess maybe TuneIn has updated the station name but not the underlying metadata when mediaworks changed up their stations.

I have this same issue with Amazon Alexia,

I say what the radio stations advertise to me to say and always without fail "Tune in" is broadcast (even when mentioning iheart radio in the command).

You'd think if they were smart, they'd have added the phrase to their site...under frequencies or the FAQ.

I know ZM does, but then that wasn't working (though did today...maybe my complaining to iheartradio worked?)

Word on the street is that Mediaworks are reviewing their talk radio product offering, so you may just get your wish in the next few months.

On the same/similar topic, anyone know how to get "The Country" Radio Station on iHeart Radio to play on Google Home? I have tried lots of different combinations but just get country music play lists when I ask. I can get ZM, ZB and several others to work.

It seems to drop the "the" part of the country in the request.

I am in Chch and Magic was on am (738) and talk on FM (?). They switched a long time ago but to access Music I still have to use the am 738. You may have the reverse issue. So try the old band and it might work ie Hey google play 738 sends me to Magic Music Chch which is actually now on FM and not that am band. I think Tunein has not updated.
