Looking around forlornly for Matter over Threads products - they are still a bit few and far between and tend to be expensive. For example a motion sensor - you are looking at an Eve Motion at around $96.

I just noticed that IKEA have a range of smart home accesssories in NZ and one of them is a Matter over Threads motion sensor for the princely price of 19 bucks!!! Makes it affordable to put one of these in lots of rooms and areas that have a smart switch and easily automate the by presence.

Seems like their stuff is all Matter/Threads... and great value.

Temperature/Humidity sensor with display $19

No relay switches though.

Nice! Can you (or anyone) vouch for quality? I thought I read somewhere that there were issues with the new range of IKEA Matter devices staying connected or something?

I’ve got a lot (dozens) of ikea zigbee devices. They are almost all very good and always supported by Zigbee2MQTT and ZHA. Their warranty support is very good too.

I have not got any of the sensors as I am well sorted with tuya ones direct to home assistant.

I got some bilressa remotes, and the lamps, which despite the old zigbee ones being terrible seem a lot better and go to a respectable cool white amount.

Pairing was a total mess even with the ikea dirigera. Got there eventually but if matter is to ever succeed they need to sort out the mess that is adding things. Now its working I have just got the remotes directly controlling the lamps. I was able to multi controller the lamps with home assistant which is now presetning them to alexa and google thru nabucasa ok, but the remotes will not do it. And I have made sure the only thread border router I have is the ikea dirigera, the google streamers are powered off and put away for now, and I gave my big echo to someone else as I had no use for it as it didn't sound good enough to be a standalone music speaker so stuck with my old echo dots into proper speakers.

I've bought a lot of Matter over Thread devices from Ikea.

The Grillplats 240v plug coming in stock is great, and they have power monitoring (Voltage, Active/Apparent Current, Active/Reactive wattage and Energy kWh).

It took some effort to get it paired into Home Assistant (constantly failing in Android's Matter setup wizard).

This is the inside guts: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/teardown-of-au-nz-grillplats-ikea-plug/1001561

A LOT better than the Arlec smart plugs.... and it's cheaper ($16 vs $23). Connecting a remote/motion sensor/door contact directly to a plug is also nice. Currently $23.99 for a remote + plug.

Something I found different is that with there being no thread border router available, the paired remotes and lights would not work. This is different to when using zigbee ones where they remembered their pairing and would still operate.

This means that keeping the remotes for backup if there is a thread network failure is pointless.

I’m trialing a couple of door/window sensors. I like them so far, although maybe a bit bigger than I would like, although the trade off for using AAA, I’m sold!

I have two each of the door sensors, water detectors, and temp/humidity sensors that I bought a few months ago from IKEA, they have been 100% solid so far.

I have the air quality sensor, and the wall switches.  I did have the "dial" switch things but returned them as I couldn't find a use.  In Apple Home had zero problems pairing and even updated without installing the Ikea app.

However from a usability perspective, the switches are pretty poor compared to say the Hue wall switches.  Even though the Ikea ones have a 'sticky' pad on the back the magnet that holds that to the actual switch is crap - every time I press it I have to be careful it doesn't fall off the wall!

On the other hand the air quality monitor is quite good - has displays for time, co2, PM2.5, temp and humidity, and it's visible in Apple Home just like my Eve Room is.  I will be getting more of these.

do you have any thing to compare them against? I saw a post on reddit, where someone had several, they all had different readings by some margin. They were all next to each other.

The Ikea Alpstuga uses a Sensirion SEN63C for PM2.5 and C02. [Reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugYjGOYPvTo]

C02 range: 0-32000 ppm.

C02 accuracy: +/- (100ppm+10%) .

It's to spec if it's within +/-100ppm between multiple units.
