...or to be more precise - buying MP3's.

Where do you buy yours from?

I had a bad experience at Digirama, but might give it another go.

I have used www.allofmp3.com and their selection is very good. My flatmate, who is a law student, seems to believe that using this service from New Zealand is legal under parallel importing laws, but I still feel slightly uncomfortable about it.

If and when the iTunes Music Store is available here, I think I'll be using that exclusively. I have tried the new service from Coke but, like Digirama, I can't get it to work.

If you can get Legitamate OGG or MP3 files, online, Do it!!!!!!

First port of call I visit my local RedShed. Own CD-MP3 rips always sound awesome.
I use www.amplifier.net.nz as it's all mp3 files which you can do what you like to and legal.
I use SoulSeek and WinMX (ILLEGAL filesharing programs) to get in open MP3 format what I cannot obtain through cheap CD's (The Warehouse) or Amplifier. I still use a hacked version of Windows 98 so the DRM won't install on my machine.

I'm forced to illegally download the rest just beacause copy protections really s(_)ck when you pay for something.

Disenchanted: Rennaisance seem to be indicating that ITMS arrival in NZ is imminent.....

If you're referring to the comments made on www.stuff.co.nz yesterday, my interpretation was that they believe that the arrival of iTMS is guaranteed to happen at some stage, but the timing is anyone's guess. It could be next month, or it could just as easily be next year. If you keep an eye on www.macrumors.com, they will have tip offs when the launch of the service is drawing near (don't forget that the launch of the service in New Zealand will almost certainly happen at the same time that it is launched in Australia).

I guess it would be fair to say that, with competition starting to heat up, Apple will need to get the service up and running before the competition gets a stranglehold on the market.

Pitch Fork
They have mp3s of upcoming new album releases, and they're free.

The onion also have a free mp3 section, if you can withstand the assault of advertising. (it's even worse than geekzone)

Bleh to itunes. The availability and success of itunes will cut into the good quality sites already available, Apple's DRM, and lack of linux support means i can't an won't be buying from them. There's no reason why they can't support EVERY operating system from win3.11 to XP to palm os. So long as you have a browser that know (x)html, SSL, and somewhere to save and play the files you can be purchasing music online. This confuscating is stunting the music industry and i can only hope (it's a slim hope) that itunes et al dies out soon.

There's google ads all over, intermingled with content.
and banners ad images at top, bottom, left, and sometimes right side of the page

but now we're off topic.

Did you realise that ads on the sides are gone? Did you notice that ads on top only show every 10th page now?

Oh, I see... Good things people don't notice...

They're gone??? :) brilliant!!!
I used to browse here on my PDA, but with images turned off because i don't want to pay for them.
google's text ads, OTOH, can't be turned off - is it safe for me to turn images on again?

to be fair, there are many site that are far far worse with image adverts all over.

BTW: i often get errors lately, when replying to posts it says "Topic must be specified"
(or some error message very close to that, i can't make it happen today)

They are gone on the side, but slower on top. AdSense still remains. I am testing this for now. We can talk more during the Geekzone party about this?
