Hi everyone.

I have an iPod Photo 60GB. One of the first things i did after purchase was upgrade the software to the latest version.

Since then, I found out that the latest software breaks the smart playlist functionality on the iPod, so I recently used the updater that came in the box to go back to that original version.

Trouble is, now my iPod seems slow in the menu system, and sometimes freezes for up to 1 minute. I have tried both original and new updater again, and the problem only occurs with the original disc, not with the new updater.

Problem didnt occur out of the box.

2004-11-15 is my original updater (ver 1.0)
2005-06-26 is the new one i have been using (1.2 i think)

Is there a slightly newer updater that will retain the Smart Playlist functionality?

Podcast support in the new version is not a priority for me.

-or- anyone have any idea on how long before a new updater comes out (being that so many users have complained about smart playlist functionality disappearing that it would surprise me if they didnt fix it / put it back in)

Rumor is new iPods will be released Sept 7 so I'd expect a software update for all iPods around then or Apple Expo Paris, Sept 20-24.

2005-06-26 is the latest one.

How did you install the older software? I wouldn't have thought you could downgrade and if you reformatted I would have thought it would be the same as it was out of the box.

I just installed and run the old updater off the install CD. It co-exists peacefully with the new updater, and i can use either one anytime (knowing that doing so reformats the ipod and i have to wait some time for itunes/usb2 to transfer forty gig of photos and music.)
