Not completely specific to WMPMC - as not all portable media devices use it - but thought this was better here than in "mp3 players", as i'm interested in the video playing.

I am considering getting a PMP soon, and are looking at 4 devices:
1) 5th gen iPod
2) Cowon iAudio A2
3) Creative Zen Vision
4) Archos AV500

I'm not too worried about the price (still want value for money though).

Currently i'm swaying towards the A2, as it's got USB host interface on it (read: can run USB devices through it, i.e. portable HDD's). I am wondering how far this would go, as I don't know the OS, and most USB deivces need drivers (will happily accept corrections on this fact though).

However, still not made up my mind, and still have some time before they properly get to market. Just putting this out here for some feedback/discussion from fellow geeks...

whatever it is. if you use windows and windows media player 10. make sure the device you get will support Play For Sure and you'll be fine.

I have Creative PMC and now I have MCE2005, so i could fully use my PMC with recorded tv that i recorded on MCE and transcode it (automatically) and send to my PMC for next day viewing (theory, not tried yet)

I'd avoid Apple, although it looks great, but you're paying premium for brand and cool-factor. Archos is another one that I'd get, I would have get it before i learned about PMC... but i decided to stay with PMC.

Definitely take a look at the Palm hendheld devices, they are extremely versatile and top of the line- It looks like they are capable of running the widest variety of applications.

If you know someone in the USA or Canada who can send it over to you, iriver america are selling the iriver PMC-120 for 299usd. As opposed to the regular 499
