I have family in the UK and they have offered to buy me a Kindle and bring it back to NZ.

Will it work OK here? - Will I be able to purchase ebooks from here and use them on that Kindle? I don't want to go jumping through hoops and pretending I live somewhere else to buy books.

It will work here. If you register an account with a New Zealand address you might see a bit less titles than the US address - but we are still talking about hundreds of thousands. Think of it like a DVD release where some countries might have one title before other countries.

Why not buy from our Amazon Kindle Order page? It's our affiliate link, it costs the same (a bit more postage) and it won't be in your family's customs allowance... I ordered mine on a Sunday and received it on Friday (it would be delivered on Thursday if I were in Auckland).

I have suggested that. Will see what they do. Looking forward to it though - getting sick of reading books then just having them lying around - too lazy to put em on Trademe.

Can I buy ebooks through the Affiliate link and you get a kickback? If so, that's how I will do it.

Sorry but I can't agree with the "few less titles" available in NZ. I read contemporary fiction and find we are WAY behind the US in having titles available that I want to read. There is a way around it, according to the geeks, which they will be able to explain better than me ie. by having 2 email addresses, and gifting from one to the other.

The easy explanation: if you associate a credit card to your Amazon account then it will be located in that card's country.

Some people are creating two accounts: one with a NZ address and credit card, one with a US address and no credit card. They purchase a gift voucher and send via email using the NZ account to their email address.

Using the US account they load the gift voucher and buy books with that account. The Kindle is linked to the US account.

Note however that some people have found you must use an US IP address for most connections otherwise the account might be suspended at some point.

As for the number of books you can buy from the NZ account, I guess it's a bit more than you could find through alternatives such as Sony Reader and Kobo anyway...

yes, but you will a kindle .com or .co.uk account linked to the kindle if you are going to purchase books through amazon.

If not you can just upload books formatted for the kindle or format them yourself with something like calibre library and not use amazon
