Hi,
I'm not up with how the 3G works - if I buy a 3G Kindle, does that mean I can go onto the internet anywhere and it will not cost anything? Or would I pay extra to my ISP?

The WhisperNet service is free for books and wikipedia (to my knowledge), anything else is extra.

APart from whispernet and wikipedia, you can't use the 3G for anything else here in NZ.

If you have a US-based account you can access the Internet through the browser, at no cost, even while out of the US. If have a non-US account then your free access is limited to Wikipedia and the Whispernet (the book distribution).

This means all Amazon eBooks are always distributed free, regardless of where you are, over the 3G network. The 3G comes preconfigured, ready to use. You don't need to do anything. No contracts, no balances.

I did, and its really good. Delivery in something like 3-4 days.
There is a slight problem though - its a christmas present, but its very very tempting to start using it now.

If you do a lot of reading, definitely get a kindle (or other ereader). So much easier to read.

We bought three Kindles to give at xmas. Last year Amazon was so overloaded with Kindle orders that anything purchased in December was delivered end of January.

For others reading: if you want four days delivery, order now. December will be too late.

I have a 4.3" Android, and a Kindle 3G, and read a moderate amount. The Android I find I cant read for more than five minutes at a time (good for waiting rooms etc).

At home, the Kindle for me is as good as a book, and I can read it for hours at a time.

Slightly cheaper I think, and we get 6% commission on each sale. Usually delivery is in three to four days (I bought a Kindle on Sunday and received on Thursday) and if you don't mind waiting a bit it means you help us.

It has a SIM, and the roaming data costs are built into the cost of products you buy.

As said it has a SIM, sumpplied by Amazon, you can't change it, and the cost of downloading books is built into the price of the book itself (which would be a few cents only, knowing ebooks are relatively small).

There's no contracts, no configurations, nothing. All automatic.
