There is no *image* for openHAB on the RPi, but there is a package available for *apt-get install* installation.
Just to confirm timezone changes to NZ using the request maker method work fine on both the DOT and TAP.
Here's the repo if anyone else wants to try it out

The Alexa service is pretty good, voice detection is great, and it can be pretty powerful in terms of automation if you got a lot of devices.
You do need to manually download the Amazon Alexa APK on your phone as I've found that it doesn't appear on the NZ play store.
Amazon is having a one day 15% off sale for these bad boys - down from $179 to $153 (USD). Just ordered mine :)

Of course! :D Just got mine today. A little tinkering with the setup to get NZ time on it, but other than that its been easy going.
Got it connected with Spotify and my Hue lights. Anything else I should do?

I'm going to use mine to turn my bedlight lamp off (connected to a Wemo switch) and to listen to Radio NZ in the mornings via iHeartRadio.
Did you use the Chrome Request Maker workaround? If so how easy was it?

Easy, but if you go and change anything else it seems to revert to your zip code timezone so I keep getting time in oregon. Also each device has to be done seperatly if you have several.
Tell her "Alexa, order echo dot" and see how long the delay is now.

My second DOT was scheduled for mid May delivery and shipped today, so they appear to be 3 weeks ahead of previous schedules for DOTs.
Your second one? Are these things really that useful?

Well that makes 4 when received.
I intended to replace the normal one with a DOT and connect to my Stereo, but actually I find the smaller speaker is quite good for background listening. Mostly its used for Music, to control home automation and add items to the shopping list.
The Tap is good for taking to the shed or garden to play spotify etc. Having to tap the button takes away alot of the benefits of Alexa, but I figure I will keep it rather than replace it with another Bluetooth speaker, which would need to be connected to my smartphone to play spotify. The charge cradle is great.
The Dot I have now I use in my office, for music, home automation and are playing with making a a few skills.
The second Dot I ordered as I figured I would be able to resell on TM at break even. But that said, I might use that one dedicated to my Hifi listening. Or if my skills work out might keep it also.
Really depends on how your house is on how many you need. But can only see they are going to get more and more use. Especially for home automation.

Im just a little annoyed that they didn't put the optical out on the dot like google have with the audio chromecast.
Agreed. But the sound from the 3.5mm stereo output was better than expected. Aptx bluetooth would have been nice also.
Of-course you could just be annoyed Google didn't include Google Now on the chromecast instead :-)
Next year I am sure there will be comparable devices from Google, Amazon, Apple; maybe Microsoft, Sony, Sonos and Others. Then we will be complaining about which to choose.
